Epoxy over Pressure Treated?

Hi All,

Anxiously awaiting my RaceDeck order to finish my garage and thinking about my small 8x8 Cabana in the meantime. It has a 7 year old, mostly fine concrete floor and the structure is framed in pressure treated wood. It tends to ingest water though which pools on the floor and I believe contributes to rotting the wood which sits along the floor forming the base for the studs (there is a word for this I know)

I am wondering if I do an Epoxy covering, can I bring it seamlessly up over the base of the framing to form a bit of a water tight pool maybe 2 inches up, such that any water that comes in through the front window simply collects on the floor but doesn't touch any wood?

Not sure if this is a normal process? The epoxy I put on the bar top of this cabana has been exceptional for protecting that wood which is fully exposed so I assume it'd be viable?

Maybe fix the window? Barring that, you need the replace the sole plate with ground contact treated lumber, so it stops rotting. I would also put 1/2"x1/2" drain slots across the bottom of the new sole plate, before you put it in. That will allow your cabana to drain.

Good points both. I am working on the window but its unlikely to be fully water tight just due to the nature of it - its a set of folding doors that swing over a bar top and are not super conducive to a water barrier. I probably misspoke on the rot - the wood isn’t rotting I don’t think, just showing signs of being adjacent to pooling water.

Your point on draining is great and one I haven’t yet figured out but probably should - the floor doesn’t slope so I am not immediately sure how to address. I just wondered if creating a water tight basin of sorts might be useful for protecting things.

Since the you're not replacing the sole plate, how about drilling 1/2" holes, right at the slab, from the outside, every so often, all the way around? Creating a waterproof pan in there sounds like you'll wind up having a puddle to step in.

Thanks - working some drains in makes sense. I will also work to see if I can an awning in place to help with the window ingest.

Still like a floor covering though maybe I'll have enough left over from my RaceDeck install to use those.

Treated wood is typically wetter than standard wood, not sure how well the epoxy would bond with it. I have no experience with epoxy on pressure treated wood, perhaps others do. I agree that a path for the water to dissipate would be better than trapping it inside the cabana.

We offer a Traffic Membrane coating used to waterproof parking decks and such that could work. We havent though tested it on PT wood so best to use it with our Flash Bond bonding primer. We don't though package any of this stuff in small quantities. Email us at below for more info. Thank you.
