I was considering using epoxy paint on my garage floor, but I couldn't justify the expense.

I just came across an article in This Old House, about epoxy paint on the floor.::

http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/how-...174654,00.html

The local paint reycling place has five gallon pails of paint for free, if you don't care what color you get.

I got eight buckets of paint. I am slowly painting my floor in different colored sections. Hopefully, this will help me to keep things organized.

I am also using the paint to seal the concrete retaining blocks that I am putting. The paint will help to keep moisture out of the blocks and cracking them with cold weather.

Does anyone have experience with the epoxy-coatings? What would you recommend?

Pictures later:;:

just splatter the paint with many different colors all over your floor. I think that is the key to making sure it doesnt come up. All these people have been painting it instead of splattering it. Must be the reason for failures. I think you have a winner there. splatter it, dont paint it! it'll last forever....and FREE!

Wolverine.... Sarcasm is appreciated.

And I have splattered enough of it to get it all over me and other things.

Considering that I did not smooth coat the floor when I finished it, the paint has adhered very well. And it has dried relatively quickly.

The sections are partially for organization and if you look at the pictures of the inside of my building, you can see that I have to shuffle the projects around to get sections painted....LOL

Dave88LX, I did some reading on the TOH web site (included in my original post) and they also said the paint would not be a good base for epoxy, but it is down now and it is free acrylic paint.

And since I can get gobs of it for free, I can always go for more when I get tired of a certain color...LOL

Thanks for all of your inputs, and I will visit the threads and web sites that you have offered.

And keep the sarcasm coming, I can spread the BS for a base coat...LOL

If you just set the paint can down somewhere that you think it is out of the way, someone will come come by and accidently knock it over and spill it out. This is not intentional and will stay down longer than anything else. My paint stain (don't know who spilled it) has been down for 10+ years with no sign of going away. On the other hand I painted my dog house with the same stuff twice in 10+ years and it's looking ready to do again.

I think the best way to get paint to last forever is to get it on something you don't want it on.

Exactly what I was going to say. I have had paint spots and undercoating overspray on my NEW (3year old) floor and tried everything cept sanding to get it off. Makes me laugh when Epoxy made for a floor wont stick!!
