I'm considering using primer prior to laying my Epoxy-Coat floor. has anyone used epoxy primer from Lowes or any from the big retailers? Please tell me about the brand that you used if the answer is yes. I'm considering the Versatile 4100 but first wanted to see what else others have had luck with. I'm currently at my long Island, NY home.

Using a primer is a great idea. I can not speak to specific brands and I tend to always use the same brands together and not mix and match so one company can not blame the other product.

BTW What part of Long Island. I am from Long Beach originally???

When I got ready to apply epoxy to my garage floor I decided I wanted a crack filler, primer, epoxy and a urethane top coat. Not wanting to turn my floor project into a research project I bought all my products from the same company, in my case Legacy Industrial. In doing so I was sure the products would be compatable and I had one source to go to with questions. I don't understand why more people don't do the same instead of sourcing products from several different companies and then wondering if they are compatable. There are a number of companies that supply all the compatable products needed to get a quality epoxy floor. Not trying to side track this thread or bash any ones efforts but why make things harder than they need to be? :dunno:

BTW,I have finacial interest in Legacy Industrial products, just a satisfied customer.

Just a tip I learned while applying Quikcrete two part epoxy floor paint, primer or no primer. In my excitement to coat my garage floor in March of 2011 I let my heart overcome my brain. In March, we had a 3-4 day stretch of 70 degree weather here in northern Utah. I was planning on waiting until perhaps June when the warm weather was more consistent. I decided to give it a go in March. Mistake! Even though the outside temp was near 70, the floor in the garage conducted the 45 degree night temp and held it much of the day. The bottom line is that the floor dried nicely in some areas but remained tacky for weeks in other areas. It slowly cured however in June I applied another coat which cured within 24 hours. Of course no cars on the surface for at least 72 hours.
