Just placed my first order here and requested Box Art, specifically cats. They did not disappoint lol. Thanks GJ!

Usually around July 4th...so you've got plenty of time to fill your wish list and your piggy bank. ;)

Thank you! I've looked a fair bit on the site. What are some of your "You can't place an order with Epstein's without buying _________"?

What is Epstein Day and what is the link?

Annual event July 4th time frame, How it started;

06-18-2012
Many of us have bought from or at least heard of Harry J. Epstein. They are an old-time, family-owned (I believe) hardware store with a damn good selection of USA-made tools and an apparent commitment to USA products. I also recently learned that they will do some pretty bad-*** custom art on your packages. I mean seriously, where can you get that kind of service in 2012?

Anyway, what if we sent a message of support to this company and their products, philosophy, and practices by having a "Buy From Epstein's Day"? We could pick a day where we would all make a purchase from Epstein within the same twelve-or-so hour period. We could communicate our reasons for ordering when we bought our stuff: we support what you guys are doing and want you to keep it up.

You could order a single item or a bunch of stuff, that's up to you. The spirit would be to support a business that you appreciate by giving them the one thing a business needs most: money.

Mega-corporations that we might want to send messages to are so large that they would never know who we are or that we had even tried to get their attention. A small place like Epstein's, especially with one of owners being a member here, would definitely notice us. It's good for them and good for us, because we all love to buy and receive awesome new tools.

I think you should time it around July 4th. You know red, white, and blue, fireworks, grilled meat and american made tools.:bowdown::bowdown:

Welcome to the Harry J. Epstein Co!

We are a small wholesale tool store in downtown Kansas City (started in 1933) that specializes in quality American made hand tools. We buy directly from manufacturer's and also buy closeout/liquidation deals. We wholesale as well as retail hand tools all over the world.

Wanted to give you guys a heads up and let you know the newish version of our website is up. Still might have a few small bugs, but please let us know everything you hate about it and how terrible it is here and I will take it under review.

I just hope I don't have anything catastrophic happen this year like it did last year. New septic systems really get in the way of new tools.

Didn't participate for 2 years but this year I have a list. Their new-ish website takes longer to load the the old one.

Just placed an order. New site worked very smoothly. Missed the comments spot on the order. When does it appear in the process?

With the old site (and maybe with the new one), if you pay via PayPal, the comments page is skipped. You then have to email them to request box art, but that process has not been successful for me.

I just drive down and pick stuff up! :)

Even though I live in New York, when work takes me to Kansas City, I generally grab a company car and visit HJE.

With all of this virus closings happening, we all need to support small USA businesses selling USA products.

I'm putting together my wish list as I typo.

Just to give everyone a quick update:

Epstein's is only doing online shopping now. We closed our store but are still shipping and letting people pickup orders at the backdoor. We sent two of our older staff home (with full pay) to wait out the virus, a decision made possible because of the continued support of online communities such as Garage Journal. Thank you! We'll definitely be here after this whole thing is over. :)

PS

We're on for Esptein's Day this year and I'll start coordinating with various US manufacturers to see what we can get going for ya!

That’s good news, thanks for taking care of your employees. I’m glad to see you are able to maintain the online side.

Hopefully the PPP will help folks like your company out.

Already liked ordering from Epstein and great to hear about how they are taking care of their employees. I have been looking for a couple of socket sets used but I am now just going to buy them new from HJE. Drop in the bucket but that's the kind of place I feel good about spending money.

I'd love to see Enderes featured. It's been years since we did a group buy. Their website still hasn't been updated and their catalog is still several years old. I'm still rooting for them though!

A good theme (this year especially) would be small business.

The big businesses SHOULD be able to weather the storm by economies of scale. The smaller manufacturers are going to take a larger beating due to any economic slowdown.
