Jori usually posts a wrap up once the dust settles.

It might take a little longer to see it with covid and the rush to get orders out.

I think the mystery bag might be this year's hit.:bounce:

But are all the orders GJ people between the numbers posted?

I'd guess the majority of them were... I'd also guess that only Jori knows, if he's concerned enough to parse it out, and it's his business...

My order wasn't really technically an Epstein's Day order - I forgot to register for that special pricing etc beforehand, and didn't want to be that **** at the last minute on a holiday weekend, didn't mention GJ, etc. I'm just glad a bunch of folks bought stuff from Epstein's.

Good man, and I agree. I’ve bought from them 2-3 times before, I just wish I could figure out a way to search their website better to find what I want (cool stuff I don’t know I need).

Guys, I tried; I really did.
Unfortunately the shipping costs for the items in my cart outweighed any savings I would have realized. (~50% of the merchandise price.)
Hopefully it freed up some inventory for someone else here on the GJ.
I'll try again next year.

(...slinks off sheepishly.)

EDIT:
Went back and looked at my cart:
Merchandise price w/ discount was $74.25 (a bit higher now)
Least Expensive shipping option : $31.44

I've seen a few comments about shipping costs. I think when I went through my order the default shipping option was definitely pricey but once I reviewed the various options, I found that UPS was pretty reasonable given the overall size and weight of my order. For what it's worth it will be shipping to the east coast. Did everyone review all the shipping choices?

I did look at the options, and it had already picked the cheapest, and nothing mission critical was on the order. It was definitely more expensive than free, but I decided it was within scope of the size and cost of the order, and moved on, clicked go.

Agree, RTM. My shipping costs were around 5.6% of merchandise total and I thought that was plenty reasonable to proceed. I think because at first I had a small order and had choses USPS it stayed there, but when I added a bunch of stuff I had to manually switch it to UPS. Just curious what the factors could be to have some folks here see unreasonably high costs.:dunno:

My subtotal was around 270 and my shipping was $27.** which I thought was reasonable given that I had a 36” pry bar and several heavy items.

So 10% shipping and avoided the 7.5% tax that would have been applied if I bought locally or Amazon/EBay.

Sounds good to me.

yes, shipping to VA negated any real savings, and I chose the cheapest option.

Shipping was about 10% of my order so $24. I mean, heck, I paid more than that in sales tax when I lived in Chicago.

Shipping was about 18 on my $100 order to NJ. I thought it was on par with Rock auto which is the only reference I could think of.

Ya I think most of us are sophisticated enough to filter thru the shipping options.

I had a $104.60 order and shipping was $13.25 that was a 15" SK LP 3/8" ratchet and a telescoping magnet. I really needed the 50' Voltec cord but that pushed my shipping to close to $28 and some change. I was glad to help out and in the long run I am still money ahead on the ratchet so no complaints.

I've only ordered from HJE maybe a half dozen times, and never any bulky stuff or really common stuff I can recall. I just resign myself to the idea of paying for shipping and don't worry about it... it does remind me of buying mailorder in the 80's over the phone from a paper catalog, and paying a shipping and handling fee on every order, always.

Thanks HJE. Shipping was $21.** on my 16 pound box full of US made tools. That did not seem high to me. I would of spent that in sales tax buying from Amazon or Ebay.

My shipping was ~$30 to S.C. but I ordered a bunch of hammers...the Vaughn seconds. No worries at all. Was pumped to buy American gear from an American company on America’s birthday while we fight off the China virus.

My shipping charge was $20 and it's only going 60 miles. Higher shipping costs is part of it when your buying from a smaller business. They usually don't have access to the same kinds of volume discounts that the bigger companies do.

My shipping with UPS ground was 88$ and it doesn't have to go far from Missouri to Illinois, but my order is pretty bulky. USPS was gonna be 124$. I know shipping is way up due to world events so that's probably part of it. I've ordered some things wholesale from Turkey and the shipping more than doubled on the last order compared to the previous one before all this started.

Shipping to Hawaii is $36.75. I ordered 3 SK Flexzone sockets, the mystery bag and a SK 30" 1/2 in drive breaker bar. Probably the breaker bar increased shipping. I could have bought the sockets and breaker bar from Amazon for "free" Prime shipping but at a higher unit cost but I wanted to support HJE. Free Prime shipping is included in the item cost so it's not free. Overall Amazon would have come out cheaper but they don't have a mystery bag.

Hopefully I'll have some time to pay them a visit next year when I go to Fort Leavenworth for training next year.

Same here, I was ready to pull the trigger on a few items (wants not needs) but the shipping costs killed it to ship to the mid-Atlantic. As a caveat, last year I got in on the Norseman drill bit deals and I was happy. I know the shippers, including USPS, all raised their rates at least at the consumer level so I completely understand. I just need to be more selective on things I need vice want when ordering online. Thanks to HJE for putting this sale on again.

Not only did rates rise (about 5% for both UPS and FedEx), UPS and FedEx also increased lots of fees. They lowered the weight schedule to 50 pounds (anything more than that carries a substantial surcharge), increased residential delivery fees, increased rural area surcharges, added more zip codes to those surcharges, and increased the fuel surcharge. Net result is a 10 or 15% across the board increase. high volume shippers won't be as badly effected, because they negotiate discounts, which often include exempting them from surcharges.

My $150 order shipped via UPS for $30. I thought this was quite reasonable considering I bought a couple of oversize items and some heavy stuff.

I had items in mind to order this weekend but got ******* with unexpected stuff and didn't get to order. Just checked to validate, and (as would be expected) the GJ specials are no longer reflected. Oh well, perhaps next year!

I did the the 50 and 100 cord... didn't think about the weight..... that might have caused the shipping to be more...

My shipping was $19 on $75 of small stuff. I have to admit that seemed steep at first, but I know rates have gone up a lot. But really Epstein's Day is more about supporting them then it is about getting a deal for me.

I did order a pruning saw from Epstein's earlier this year. With shipping it was about the same cost as Amazon.

Man, with all the griping about shipping it would serve some of you guys right if HJE didn't do an Epstein's day next year. I for one was very pleased with what I got for the money I spent. And I'm a cheapskate.

Jori et al, thanks for doing this for us, most of us appreciate it!

I would have spent more.... just said shipping held me back, my bad. I still spent 247 on stuff.... I still spent for the cause and I didn't need anything.

That's the problem isn't it? Amazon intentionally sells things at a loss to try to put people like Jori out of business. Amazon is convenient just like Walmart was when I was a kid. But the consequences for what's left of small businesses in this country are going to be staggering.

I have no issue paying shipping and mine was very reasonable. My only shipping option is USPS currently and I'm used to having added shipping costs. It's not HJEs fault and I'm glad to help out a small business over Amazon or the large commercial stores. "Free shipping" is normally baked into the cost, although I'm sure Amazon gets a volume discount.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Epstein Day stats from Jori this year.

I don't think anyone is griping at HJE they're more expressing that they wish they could have supported HJE more but they couldn't make it work with the shipping.

My point was really that Epstein's is very competitive. I'm just not used to seeing shipping rates anymore. In the example for the pruning saw I bought, it was $26 on Amazon. The same saw on Epstein's was $20 with $7 shipping and Epstein's doesn't charge sales tax. So for about the same money I was able to support Epstein's and get the product sooner.

My Epstein’s day package arrived today. Some fun stuff. The 1st picture is the stuff I ordered. The 2nd picture is the contents of two mystery bags. The shipping was a little extreme... $28.95 on a $72 order, but it was worth it to get a package from somewhere other than amazon!
