That’s great news Mack!

Hope everything rolls out of Jersey smoothly. Hey will the RV become a GJ AirBnB?

Leg one of the move is done. Laura is OK, but she wrecked her car on the way down. The car drive but the roof is the only panel with no damage.
I’m at the airport heading north for leg #2 to load all of the machinery from the shop. I have 4 days to load it all up and then fly back Friday night to start unloading Saturday morning.

Oh my! I'm glad to hear that Laura is OK. Cars can be repaired or replaced but not so easy with wives.
But I am sure that you are happy to get phase one move done. Phase two will be strenuous but worthwhile when you have your shop stuff in Florida.

Mac, that's terrible reminder how quickly life can go sideways. So glad Laura is OK and now you have a chance to help her escape from her old dream car into a new one.

Wow, that’s not a good way to start a new chapter. Besides shaken nerves, glad she is ok.

So here's the latest update.

Laura's car is a 2019 Subaru Outback. It's drivable but they may total it, I hope. We are trying to postpone the adjuster until I get back home.

I got back to the NJ shop about 1pm and have been working all day. I have a few machines that run off a 10HP rotary phase converter and I ran all the 3-phase wiring in plastic, surface mounted conduit. I spent a few hours removing all the wiring and conduit, I'm keeping the wire but I'll give the conduit to Trevor as I have a bunch of leftover 3/4" PVC at the grove.

I got all of the lathe and mill tooling packed up in plastic totes as well as a bunch of other stuff. I got the big drill press disconnected as well as the Burke mill and Shaper all staged and ready to be loaded.

I have to weld up a base with fork pockets for the B&S horizontal mill and jack the mill up to attach the base. Still have a bunch of wall cabinets to empty and remove. Tomorrow should be a busy day and Tuesday the big trailer arrives and I can start loading it.

The house is empty and I have a sleeping bag on the bedroom floor. Its going to be a fun week here in NJ.

Its been a busy two days here in the old shop.

I got the pockets welded and mounted for the B&S mill. I have all the machines disconnected and staged by the door except for the lathes and the BP mill. The last 2 benches have been topped with as much steel and aluminum stock I can fit on them and then they were shrink wrapped. I have filled 2 pallets with totes and shrink wrapped them too.

Tomorrow the rental fork lift should be here first thing and I will start loading machines on the trailer. I only have the forklift for one day so I have to stay focussed and keep moving. In addition to moving my machines, I also have to get Trevor's lathe and band saw out of the garage and loaded onto his trailer. Trevors' lathe is a 7,000# Pacemaker just a little bit smaller than mine so that will be a fun move too.

I put a good 14 hours in today and I feel it from head to toe. I have two more days of this and my fun meter was pegged sometime yesterday. The truck leaves on Friday and I have to be back at the Grove to unload it Saturday morning.

Sounds like someone needs to deliver a giant bottle of Tylenol with that forklift tomorrow.

Hope it all goes smoothly.

You’re bustin *** and taking names. Looks like your making great progress. That’s some serious shrink wrap. Craig taught me the benefits of shrink wrap followed with duck tape. Definitely the way to pack stuff.

So here's the update from todays effort.

Trevor and I moved the pacemaker lathe out of the shop to load it on the truck. The lathe weighs 8K and we moved it by hand across the shop on 3/4" pipes to the doorway where I picked it up with the forklift. We also loaded the Monarch 10EE, DoAll DTR28 (it weighs almost 5K), the B&S #2, the BP mill, the burke mill, the SB shaper, Pexto shear, box/pan brake, 2 work benches, and 2 pallets of totes.

While we had the forklift, we also moved Trevors pacemaker lathe and DoAll band saw out of my garage and placed it in his garage. His house is 1/2 mile away so I drove the forklift to his house to unload his lathe and saw.

I have the big trailer loaded about 3/4 of the way. I still have room for 6 more pallets of totes which I hope to get loaded tomorrow so that the truck can leave on time Friday morning.

I was hoping to get at least a dozen more totes filled tonight but I an completely out of steam. A long hot shower, 2 Alieve, and I'll be asleep before my head hits the pillow.

Like Texas, here in Florida we do things big. Mack you’re going to need a bigger lathe. Lol.
Too bad you couldn’t get any Jersey GJers to help you like the Florida GJers. We need to plan another meet up to “help” you unpack.

That would be no problem Willie, that Pacemaker can hold a tenth all day long.

Damn Mack. You never know how much stuff you have until you move it. I’m tired even reading what your doing.

G, I'm finding cool stuff I never even knew I had.

Shorty,
On your next visit to the grove, you may not come in a truck. In fact you must walk in to the Grove and you must keep your hands clapping for the duration of your visit.

Fixed it for you Shorty. [emoji23][emoji23]

Today's update:

We finished loading all of the machines on the trailer. The shop is almost as empty as its going to get.

When we packed out the house last week, we forgot about the attic. I fit everything that was in the attic on a pallet and a half and put it on the truck.

My trucker friends showed up in the late afternoon to strap everything down and tarp the truck. Just as we got started the rains came down. We worked through torrential rains for about 3 hours and finally had to quit before the job was done as we were all going hypo-thermic.

I have a few more things to pack tonight that I can slip under the tarps in the morning before the truck leaves. The truckers plan to leave around 10am tomorrow and will be at the Grove first thing Saturday morning and the plan is to have them unloaded and pointed north sometime after lunch, how much after lunch remains to be seen.

I'll get a few hours rest after the truck leaves as my flight back to the Grove isn't till 7pm.

Looking at what is left here in NJ I'm pretty certain that I'll be driving up here next weekend with my trailer to get the last of it.

Just a little more and you can sleep for a month.

Yeah Mack you need to sleep for a month. We’ll handle everything for you.
I was wondering if the equipment was going to be covered. It was quite the storm but going outside just now is calm and clear so y’all should have good weather for the trip south.

99% of my shop has escaped NJ and is on its way to the Grove.

I'll be there to unload it in the morning.

I’m sitting here in the airport and just texted the delivery address to the truck and I asked them what the load weight was..........70,000

I took 13,000 on my for load and 10,000 on my second load. When I started this thread a few years ago I estimated 40 tons in post #10, I wasn’t too far off the mark.

Mac, glad to see it heading south. I wouldn’t of posted pictures of the main load as you just gave Shorty a target.
Pretty good peg on getting him to clap he’s hands.

I’ll be in a similar boat see messy when we bail.

Those yellow top totes are great for the price, I’ve just loaded 6 of them to the hilt.

Good luck and wish I could be there for a day.

You won’t believe this. Donning my DOT jacket, waiting at the state line some trucker tried to sneak into Florida with an overloaded semi. I took care of that.

Mack is it fair to assume everything goes in place following the layout of the old shop?

Just a quick update for now.
The shop machines made it to the Grove intact with only 2 minor casualties.

The truck arrived here at 10:30 am and we had it unloaded by 1:00pm.
I have a shop full of stuff to unpack as well as a house full of stuff to unpack (although Laura put a major dent in the house unpacking). I slept late today and didn't do much of anything. We have a full day planned for tomorrow and I go back to the day job on Tuesday.

Saturday morning I point my truck and trailer north for one more time to get the last of the things that are still in NJ that need to come south. It will be a marathon run up and back so I don't miss anymore of the day job.

Heres a few pics of the unload and I'll go into more detail when I get a chance.

Just finally finished this thread after four days of reading in my spare time. Congratulations on the build and move!

Waaaaaay back a few pages ago, ToolFool mentioned Canyon Creek kitchen cabinets, and it was a small world moment for me. We went with Canyon Creek when we redid our kitchen in 2011. I want to say it was just under $9K for all the bells and whistles, but it's a pretty small kitchen.
