The conduit install hasn't happened yet as I still have no permit.

I'm lining everything up to do it next Monday. A newer rental place opened up right down the street from the "Green" rental place. I walked in there today to reserve a trenching attachment for my Bobcat for Next week. The guy behind the counter gives me the price for a one day rental and I told him he was over twice the price of what the Green store down the street wanted for the same rental. He looked at me and said "That's the best I can do", I said I guess I'm going down the street to the Green place, he said "Whatever" as I walked out the door.

I'll be picking up a trailer load of conduit on Friday, I'll trench and bury it on Monday. I ordered the meter base/load center today and I should have it on Wednesday

I'm pretty sure I'll have permits in hand before Friday.

***** about the permits. If it’s like a lot of places in Florida, construction is taking off again. Sounds like the new rental place might be the closed rental place with an employee like that. I believe you have sandy soil so the trenching should be easy minus a lot of small roots.

Here’s to getting your permits this week.

I figure a 65HP skid steer powered trenching attachment should eat just about any root I have on my property.

I was pretty pissed off last night and went to the new rental places web site and clicked the "Contact Us" tab and wrote a short note on the days events at the location I visited, just to get iff my chest and vent. I got a call at 0900 this morning from the district manager for the rental company apologizing for the arrogant little ***** at the counter. He gave me his personal cell # and said the next time I need to rent equipment to call him first. I was surprised to hear from him and I may give him a try next time. Or maybe I'll just call the Green place as we already have a relationship and they treat me well.

Shorty is great help when shooting pull string in conduit with air. He was helping me last September, I guess my conduits took on water when I put them in. We were trying to use a vacuum, but wouldn’t pull through, I told Shorty I was going to hit it with air, I guess he didn’t hear me. I shot the air to it and went over to check as Shorty was coming out with a little water on him😜😜.

I’ve pulled string with a shop vac 400’ with no issues. I’ve found that a loose fitting zip lock works great. I always blow pvc out first before using shop vac, I’ve heard of the glue fumes blowing up in vacuum.

I got word this afternoon that my permits were denied.

The electronic plans that were sent to me were digitally signed with a Florida seal, nobody but the county notice that the originals that were sent in with the permit application had a Georgia seal.

I called the building supplier today and they are overnighting 3 new original sets of plans with a Florida seal. I may still get my permits tomorrow but if not, I'll have them on Monday.

I received the FL stamped plans in 2 days and re-submitted to the county last week. As of close of business yesterday I still have no permits, they are telling me it should be sometime next week.

I have trenched and put 227' of 3" conduit in the ground. I need to pour a foundation for my meter base and get it installed and connected to the conduit so that as soon as I get a permit I can call the powco and tell them to come and run the service cable.

We haven't had a call or showing on the NJ house in almost 2 months so I took it off the market today because my realtor *****. I have to wait 30 days before I can list it with another realtor. We will be interviewing several realtors before we decide who to list it with.

GAME ON.

We had a meeting with our builder's office manager on Monday to discuss finishes and fixtures on our new house. While we were there they called the county about our permits and our permits were issued Monday afternoon.

On Wednesday I got a call from the builder asking for the combination to the lock on my property gate. Thursday there was a sign placed by our builder at our driveway entrance. Today on my way to work I see that our gate is open and I drive in to find the project manager for our build shooting grades. We had a good talk and will get along together well. They also had a porta-potti placed on site. They are scheduled to place the foundation slab for both the house and shop on 8/5.

I am heading back to NJ for a week on 8/8 so when I get back on the 8/14 I will have a slab for my shop with 7 days of cure time. I'll be starting to hang iron for the shop in mid August. Woo Hoo.

Thanks to all for following along on this crazy relocation/build journey.

As some of you may or may not know, I'm working and living here in Florida in a 29' camper that is almost off the grid in a remote location while my wife still resides in our house in NJ while we try to sell it. I go to NJ once a month or she comes here and we get to see each other for about 5 days or so.
Laura was here last week and we met with our builder to start making selections on finishes in the house.

We email, PM, phone, all day and face time every evening to discuss the days events. We are both researching things that will go into our new house and shop. Tonight Laura sent me a picture of a urninal that I need to make for my shop. I have a wonderful wife.

I saw this thread when you started the relocate but wasn't subscribed. Looks like you're about to rock and roll. Good luck, I'll be following from here on.

Thanks Shorty. The contractor has already set the grade stakes but I would still like to shoot it from a benchmark to know exactly how high we are.

You do indeed! Very happy for you.

I'm a lucky man Dan, thanks

Glad to see you here in Florida TF and glad that you will be following along on my build. You'll have to car pool with Shorty once my shop is done and I get foolish enough to have a GTG at my place.

I'm making progress and it feels good.

All I need to be able to move my camper to the property is electricity, now that I have permits I can make that happen. Since I already had the trenches dug and pipe in the ground, all that's left is to install the meter base and distribution panel. I am bringing in 400 amp service underground that will be split into two 200 amp sub panels, one for the house and one for the shop.

So today I put two 8"x36" sono tubes in the ground and filled them with concrete. I set two 4x4 architectural aluminum tubes in the concrete. Tomorrow I will slide pressure treated 4x4's into the aluminum tube and make a frame to hang my meter base/distribution panel. Once the panel is mounted and the 3" pipe connected I can call the Powco to come out and install the service cable.

I could very well have juice by the end of the week and be moving to my own place next weekend.

I just found your thread today and read through it. sounds like you have made a good recovery from the opening page.

I have thought of bailing out of So. Cal. for the very same reason of economics
and have every bit as much STUFF as you have to move.
I enjoyed reading all the suggestions you were given for moving your load.

I also built myself a tin building when I was your age. Wouldn't want to do it again today.
I'll be following your build with great interest

recycled concrete is very dusty unless covered with some other material, 2 days without rain and every vehicle that drove on it will need to be washed

That'll be great to get the power, sure will make working on site easier and will save on RV costs.

Great seeing the progress.

Thanks for stoping in Don.
Its hard to believe that I started this thread 3 years ago and the the events in the backstory are almost 10 years in my rear view mirror. I knew that if I didn't get out of NJ relatively soon that I would end up dying there and I didn't want to do that so I had to get off my *** and move out.

If they get my shop foundation done as scheduled, I'll be 60 before I hang the first piece of iron. This is going to be interesting so stay tuned.

Things are starting to happen now

So here is what happened today on my day off from the day job.

I got the frame for the meter base/distribution panel built. I ran 225' of 1" conduit 1' on top of the 3" conduit I had trenched from the pole to the meter base and back filled the trench.

The contractor brought in 15 loads of fill for the house foundation and 10 loads of fill for the shop foundation. One of the dump truck drivers got stuck twice and I had to give a little assistance with the Bobcat to get him out.

They are bringing in a dozer Wednesday to spread and level the fill. Plumbers and electricians are scheduled to do their rough ins and concrete is scheduled for 8/5.

I get back from NJ on the 14th and hopefully all will be good to go for getting an erection going.

OK, you guys need to get your minds out of the gutter (notice I didn't say Heads out of the gutter). I'm building a new shop and the erection part of the build will be here before you know it.

As I passed the property on my way to work this morning the gate was open and they were unloading a dozer. When I got home tonight all of the fill that was brought in yesterday had been leveled and compacted.

Plumbers, electricians, and concrete guys have the rest of the week to get ready for placing concrete next Monday. The weather looks good so no anticipated weather delays. When I get back from Jersey on the 14th, I'm going to start an erection that is going to last more than 4 hours.

Glad to see it's moving along , nice to have a contractor that's getting it done.

Did they leave the keys for the dozer?

I thought about checking and then I thought about what if it was my dozer, I didn't check or give it a second thought.

I have some other jobs on the property that will take days to do with my skid steer. With that little D3, I could have it all done in a few hours.
