ESCO jack stands - keep or return

Hey guys,

After reading overall good reviews here and on a few other sites, I ordered 4x ESCO jackstands. The material quality seems good but the manufacturing is a little questionable. I attached pictures of the post from each jack stand. As you can see, none of them are straight. That said, I’m no t sure how much it will affect their ability to get a good stable safe setup under my car.

What do you guys think? Keep them or return them?

Andy

I don't think it will affect stability - you can always try and see? I love my esco stands.

I would think they should be square as a basic quality need and check, i would call and complain. No different than a jack stand that doesn't set flat and rocks another basic.

That's only half the stand shown. I like the 3 leg design. I have some real similar ones made from plumbing pipe, but I think My tops are still straighter.

Hmmm, I'll have to check mine. I agree that for the price they should be close to perfect. That said, there's enough slop built into the bottom piece (on purpose) that I doubt there's any issue with its function.

Is the bottom receiver, welded perfectly vertical or is it welded at a slight angle. Maybe put the 2 pieces together and then see how it looks.

They're perfectly functional. I would just use them. Mine are a little out of square as well.

Replace. Maybe they are knockoff's?. There should have been jig welded for precision and should be plumb, level, square, etc.

That just ********, plain and simple. Poor or no quality control, they should be ashamed and embarrassed to send a POS like that out the door!

I just returned a receiver style Warn winch mount back for the very same reason. The 6" long 2x2 tube was 3/8" out of square with the mounting plate.
WTF...what ever happened to having pride in your work or product?...corporate greed at its best

Return them with a brutally truthful note.

You have the square setting on one surface with the stand setting on another. Do you know for a fact they are co-planar? As in, did you verify they are both level? Or the same amount out of level?
I suggest you give them a call. Perhaps there's an easy way to determine if they are counterfeit. If not, ask them how close to perpendicular the upright should be. I would not accept those for the price of them.

I thought about that. I did check it quickly with another square and it was really close to perfect. Plus, a couple of the posts are crooked enough that you can see it with just the visual reference of the table edge so I’m inclined to trust the squares. In any case, they’re sending new ones.

I got a pair for Christmas and mine were square but one of the posts had some casting on the bottom and would not allow it to slide into the stand. I just sanded it off with my belt sander and they work great now. Seems their quality control ***** and the rubber smells like a Harbor Freight store lol

Ordered a pair of them a few weeks ago from Amazon and the top plates were crooked on both so I had Amazon send me a replacement set. The top plates on the replacements weren't as crooked but still not perfect. I used them for the first time this weekend on my Tacoma and they worked out great. The section of the Tacoma frame where you place the front jack stands is too wide for the saddles on regular jack stands but it's flat so these work perfectly.

Making mountains out of mole hills.

Making a weld like that square would be if cult in a production environment. Other than drilling a hole in the pad and turning a shoulder on the rod and pressing them together first will you eleminate most of the warping. Even then it will warp the top plate to a mushroom/domed shape and drastically increase cost. Heavy fixturing is posible due to access and heavy tacks can still be an issue.

Go lay a 36" straight edge several places on your floor and see the gaps under it. Going to rip up your concrete?

If a manufacturer isn't set up to weld two pieces together without being crooked; I would pass on any purchases.

I would rather not make up excuses for them when they shamelessly sell crooked jack stands; produced in the USA or not.
