I used it too, on a series of steel 3 inch steel plates that had been black-oxided previously, but had some light rust.

In about 30 minutes, rust gone. (Unfortunately, will have to re-black-oxide the plates as well).

I like the stuff because it's easy on the environment and your skin.

I've used it for quite a while and the stuff is great. I use it to de-rust bolts and other hardware. You can reuse it if still somewhat clear. KEEP IT COVERED. It will evaporate and leave your tools, sockets in a bed of hardened sticky sludge in about a week. Speaking from experience here.

Once it's cloudy, toss it.

I think I have something similar that I got from Home Depot. It comes in a spray bottle and it very gentle on the hands and has a very mild odor. I believe it is made by Krud Kutter. Like the Evapo-rust though, if you let it dry out the remaining liquid will get really nasty and hard. Plus, the part will get a nasty white film on it. Overall, I like it though, and it works.

The file's teeth were clogged with rust now they are nice and clear and all I did was rinse. Now I will go to the garage and spray some light oil on it.

I will stick with the electrolytic rust removal it's almost free. Will not remove base metal the solution can be reused until you can almost stand on it, and dose not turn to sludge on the parts.

I bought 4 gallons last weekend. In a large tub I soaked the carburetor off of my '69 Charger that has been sitting on the shelf for the last 15 years. It's a Carter AVS 4bbl. The linkage was nasty looking with rust, and the throttle plates would not open, the shaft was rusted. I soaked the carb overnight, pullled it out in the a.m., and I' telling you this stuff is awesome. The rust came off of the linkage, and the throttle now works freely. Even the choke-pull off did not get damaged by this stuff. So I soaked a cast iron intake manifold, some tools and such that got rusty over the years, they look great. Now I have figure out how to resize the pics so I can post them......

Another resource; I have seen some amazing photos from this stuff as well. I'm not sure how it compares to Evapo - Rust:

http://www.safestrustremover.com/

Check out the before and after!

I have this. It works. Slowly. Better if solution is warm. They recommend scrubbing in between. Do not use for cad plated stuff cause along with the rust it will take off the plating. also parts are prone to flash rusting because you have to rinse it off in water afterwards. On the plus side, it is very gentle to the parts.

Bead blasting and rinsing in Phosphoric acid etch is about 6 times faster.

I think a better thing is to rig up an electrolytic rust remover. I put a plated part with some rust in there and it took off the rust and left the plating.

Just a heads up, I picked up the 32 oz. bottle of Evapo-Rust at O'reilly's for $9.00 with a $3.00 mail-in rebate. Good price. I'm gonna try it out this weekend.
