Here's an ebay listing for a set of 440s modified to be a cutter at the tip:

Interesting, but I can't imagine that working well with channellocks. There's too much play in a tongue and groove joint.

I like the idea, never tried it. It would be difficult to grind all of that material out without softening the metal. Time and a cold water bath I suppose.

That's very interesting.

440 jaws don't line up parallel when they close, so the modifier must have ground extra material off the tips to get a flat surface. I wonder how well they actually work.

I also wonder how/when they ground down the cutting tip - if it has the same hardness and heat treat as the rest of the pliers. It looks professionally done with a machine - not some shade tree machinist with a grinder.

Looks like they simultaneously ruined a good pair of Channellocks and made a useless set of cutters. Truly one tool to do neither job well. No wonder they're for sale.

Maybe you could grind it so that the cutters line up when you push the jaws all the way to one side or the other.
