Looks like the last of the Evercraft is gone from Napa, at least as far as the website is concerned. End of an era. I only have a few evercraft sockets but I'm assuming the lifetime warranty will transfer to Performance Tool line now? Does Napa require a receipt for their warranty? I never warrantied anything out over there.

I would like some one to review those new 180 position ratchets, those look interesting. They might clear out the "old" blue and yellow ratchets soon if anyone wants to put those on their watch list. As far as their list prices though, they're flying too close to the sun there, next time I needs tools companies like Capri offer similar quality for much cheaper.

If I want import tools, I'll just go to Harbor Freight. They're asking the same as USA-made from the trucks (or at least in-line with Proto/Williams) for much of this.

Speaking of Evercraft--mine blew them out way back in the fall of last year. Got a few odds and ends for pocket change.

Honestly, I don't see the point, unless they're trying to go after shops that buy their parts from Napa, but tools off the trucks. A lot of those now are buying from Harbor Freight also. Harbor Freight has grown exponentially over the past few years, and as much as I like Made in USA, a good portion of the tools (if not the majority) I buy come from them every year.

I've noticed other auto parts store brands like AutoZone's Duralast (which as I understand, is Apex/Crescent sourced), OReilly's Power Torque, and Advance Auto's Die Hard are getting more and more decent. I think NAPA should take heed, instead of going more upscale in price with less-than-upscale offerings. I handled a few Carlyle pliers, and I felt they were maybe Kobalt/Pittsburgh quality at Channellock pricing.

Some of the new pricing on the Carlyle stuff is out of control in my opinion:

I really think NAPA / Carlyle is trying to move upmarket (Matco/MAC/SO) to allow HFT (as others have already said) to take over the low and mid-tier tool offerings.

Just talked to my local NAPer about this....he has switched from walls of Carlyle to walls of Performance Tools. Said the locals would rather pay the PT prices than the Carlyle prices....also said the prices were too high but the quality did go up for Carlyle. I was suprised to see what PT has to offer, they even had a HUGE 1/2 drive to 3/8 male extension...never knew PT made anything more than basic tools. He also gave me a paper book of ALL the NAPer tools and equipment....great reading material!

I don't think changing colors to black/green and adding a sabretooth head as a logo will get the new Carlyle tools far. I'm not sure how many peeps will pay exorbitant prices for made in Cambodia sockets and simple hand tools. Makes Icon, Tekton, and Capri that much more appealing. :wtf:

Damn, are they really made in Cambodia? :ROFLMAO:
Based on my sample of one socket I included in an order out of curiosity the hang tag says "Product of Cambodia, Finished in China". I have pictures of it in the Carlyle tools thread.

As kind of an aside from Napa discontinuing Evercraft and re-vamping the Carlyle tool line, did Napa just kind of give up on selling Proto tools? I remember when they first started selling Proto (I think to replace Armstrong?), they would include some in the quarterly flyer and even put some tools on sale. Now just checking a few Proto items on the Napa website it's kind of a mixed bag if it is in stock or not. Zoro has the same items available, which would suggest it isn't a supply issue from Proto.

That said mentioning Proto, it is kind of funny to see how out of hand the pricing on the Carlyle line has gotten. Depending on the store, it is possible for a long pattern Carlyle 22mm wrench ($34.99 for old $38.99 for new) to cost more than a satin finish Proto 22mm wrench ($31.40) off their website. Maybe that's just an anomaly, but it's still kind of odd.

Yes, with finishing in China.
If you go to the SHOW OFF YOUR CARLYLE TOOLS thread, page 38, post 1511, 65K10 posted a picture of a new style Carlyle socket with the black/green hang tag listing their new COO.

Several Chinese factories moved to Vietnam and Cambodia in the last few years.

I didn't know they even carried Proto, so I looked to see what they have. Proto J52212 for $72.49, or the SSNS38012M (same quantity and sizes) for $84.99 from Carlyle

Evercraft tools were little more than junk whenever I looked them over. Maybe they were a decent tool choice at one point but not since I've entered the job market.

As for Carlyle Napa has continually dropped the ball there. Unless it was on sale it was always over priced. At one point I remember half moon wrenches were cheaper through Matco than Carlyle, exact same set: sizes, COO, packaging.

my understanding is the switch was from evercraft to performance. The walls of Carlyle are being replaced soon with bins of Carlyle. The store I frequent still has a few evercraft in the clearance section at really low prices. And the Performance selection is larger plus better quality.

The other burning question I have is why did they move away from the traditional yellow and blue NAPA colors to this lime green? They look cheap.

The market for Napa tools has always seem to have beem people buying parts from them, plus the random rural sales, where they're the nearest place with the tool you need today. The carlyle tools have always been expensive, and the new stuff is stupidly so. My nearest NAPA never had much of it, because they couldn't sell it. They had some of the service tool stuff, because if you need a special tool, you need a special tool, but no one is paying carlyle prices for a wrench when they can go few blocks and buy cheaper.

The older Evercraft with the NAPA logo on the packaging had a stated Lifetime Guarantee.
The newer stuff just said Evercraft and their was no mention of warranty.
Will they replace it with PT? Its hard to say. Its really up to management and that will depend further if its a franchise or corporate store.
The few times I did warranty with NAPA no receipt was required, but again thats a YMMV situation.

Evercraft of late had a few interesting items like the extra long screwdriver set with the monster flat head.

Performance Tool quality varies as they source from different manufacturers. They are another one of those companies where sifting the wheat from the chaff yields the best results.

I’m pretty well done considering NAPA for tools. It was fun while it lasted. The OG Carlyle was a good memory.

I only had one experience with Evercraft and that was gray plastic cased SAE/metric 1/4" socket set from maybe the 90's(?). I think I used it a few times but the chrome was flaking off the sockets and the ratchet was ******. I think I gave it away to a friend for his breakdown kit years ago.

There were a few Evercraft items I had looked at on the NAPA website and didn't pull the trigger fast enough. One Evercraft item in particular that I want is for sale on eBay right now, but the seller won't respond to my offers and someone just left a neutral feedback that eBay had to refund them due to no communication from the seller.

Which online eBay retailer do you think picked up the remaining Evercraft inventory?

That being said, NAPA has always sucked at marketing their tools. Doing away with Evercraft and shifting Carlyle from blue/yellow to black/green proves just that. I'm at a loss for words...
