First-time poster here, my turn to give back to the forum and let you all know about the Evolution Rage 3 on sale for $149 at menards. That's a hundred bucks off menards normal price!

Yeah it is a sliding miter saw, but it also cuts aluminum and steel with the same blade!

Thanks, was thinking about getting one back when Lowe's was clearing them out earlier this year. They got down to under $80 but went quick. The quality of these saws doesn't feel on par with most of the name brand miter saws, but the ability to cut all materials with it makes it appealing.

I have one and I will say if you take it easy it will do the job. It is by no means heavy duty so I use the bandsaw for straight cuts to save the blade and saw from wear and tear. But for the money it cuts angles very well. I paid $200.

The only thing is. . .most tools that do everything usually do it poorly. But for $150. . .

the main difference between metal saws and wood saws is the RPM.

IIRC the rage3 has a speed around 2500 with a smaller balde because of the slide function while the rage 2 is around 1500 with a larger blade. Id have to do the math but I would be willing to bet the tooth speed is probably very close.

Wood saws operate in the 3500rpm range with a larger blade.

Looking through the paper on sunday I believe menards also had the Rage 2 on sale for $129. It is built more like a traditional abrasive chop saw though without the compound or miter functions.

Everything I have read said they are great metal saws for the price, Im not sure I have read anything about their capabilities on wood but I imagine its not the greatest because of the reduced speed.

Ive been looking for an abrasive shop saw, looked at the rage's last week at menards... not sure which to get the rage 2 or 3... i have a mitre saw for wood so id only be using this from angle iron etc.

which is better? in assuming to non sliding model as i dont think that would be needed for cutting metal stock.... unless im overlooking something???

It depends on what size of material you typically cut. The Rage 3 has a 10" blade whereas the Rage 2 has a 14" blade. You can cut taller objects with the Rage 2, but get a longer cut with the Rage 3 due to the sliding mechanism.

From what I've read in other posts you're not supposed to use the slide function when cutting metal.?
