the main difference between metal saws and wood saws is the RPM.
IIRC the rage3 has a speed around 2500 with a smaller balde because of the slide function while the rage 2 is around 1500 with a larger blade. Id have to do the math but I would be willing to bet the tooth speed is probably very close.
Wood saws operate in the 3500rpm range with a larger blade.
Looking through the paper on sunday I believe menards also had the Rage 2 on sale for $129. It is built more like a traditional abrasive chop saw though without the compound or miter functions.
Everything I have read said they are great metal saws for the price, Im not sure I have read anything about their capabilities on wood but I imagine its not the greatest because of the reduced speed.
