Experience with sheds????

I need to replace an old storage shed that has been with the house for at least 35 years and I’m not sure what direction I should go….purchase a steel shed (at Lowes/Home Depot), or buy a wooden shed from a local business. I’ve seen some of the comments from people that have purchased the steel shed and most of them complain about the difficulty they had building the sheds, so I was curious if anyone on this board has experience building a steel shed. My greatest concern is that I don’t want to spend the entire weekend assembling a 10x10 or10x8 shed.

My father had a steel shed that ended up caving in during a heavy snow one winter. The doors were always difficult to open and the entire thing was just cheaply made.

Personally I like wood. Not only are they stronger (in most cases) but you actually have studs that you can hang things from or attach shelves to.

I prefer wood as well for the same reasons. Just seems stronger and you have studs to hang stuff. We have a number of shed companies around here that will deliver a pre-constructed shed or in pre-cut "kit" form. We chose the latter option as we wanted to paint it to match the house and garage prior to assembly. Also allowed us to pre-paint the interior side of the panels white, which seems to help a lot with being able to see stuff in an otherwise unlit space.

Including the floor, construction too about a w/e. I do have a air roofing nailer which made that part go much quicker.

A shed was by far one of the best additions we made the garage: nothing like getting all of the yard-related **** OUT of there!

The house I just bought has an 11x13 Ted's Shed (wood framing and floor, aluminum panels) and double doors. Lasted through the hurricanes with nary an issue.

Don't buy one of the kits from Lowes. My wife and I just got done putting one together for my parents. It was an 8'x12' saltbox style. One end wall had one (yes ONE) stud and the other end wall had 2 studs. Studs were 2" x 3", no bottom plate, 3.8" OSB, etc.

I have a steel shed I put up about 10 years ago. It was a nightmare and took an entire weekend to erect even tho the base was carefully prepared and leveled. I also have had problems with the doors and dents etc. I would NEVER EVER buy a steel shed again. I would rather buy the materials and stick build a shed or find a decently made wood shed kit. There are shed pans on the web.

I bought a cheapie metal shed from Sears this summer. I built a floor out of 2x4 s and plywood. My wife helped me assemble the shed in one afternoon. After it was assembled I went along with silicone caulk and sealed every little opening. Also during assembly I siliconed every screw as I installed them.

I am very pleased with the results. I got the shed on sale + friends and family discount + employee discount (daughter). I think I paid $255 total for it including the lumber for the floor.

I'm in the same boat as you. Want something that will last, but don't want to waste time with a kit.

I just had a fully assembled 8'x12' wood shed delivered and set where i wanted it for $1000. A shed package alone was more than that. Plus I would have had to assemble it still.
