Can I mill PVC trim, like round over an edge or add a flute? and leave it unpainted? I've never used it and considering in place of some vinyl siding style lineal trim.

You should be able to router it. Make sure your have a sharp bit, otherwise you may have some melting from heat. It it flattens the gloom of the surface, you may be able to use a heat gub to bring some gloss back.

I've never tried a heat gun for this but a small torch usually will restore the gloss of many plastics [propane, butane, even a cigarette lighter, size of the part dependant). The melt point of most are in the low to mid 400° range but they start becoming "plastic" in the 200-250° range [where your "magic" will start to happen, move the heat quickly, to heat as evenly as possible] if you get to 400° for pvc, polyethelene, polypro, etc you will have a puddle. Nylon is a 600° melt material. These are rough range estimates, each "flow" (material) in a given group can vary enough to cause problems so practice on a very similar sacrificial specimen. Harry

It machines great, but I have found that the edges get really dirty quickly due to not being smooth. Haven't tried a heat gun on it
I'm not impressed by it much due to the texture/porosity. Seems like it collects dirt immediately, and with how damp it is around here gets mildewy.

Should it always be painted?

About 5 years back I bought some PVC beadboard 8' lengths from HD, stuff was dead smooth and solid when cut. They stopped carrying it, but I wanted some more to patch in where a door became a window and the material that cost 2x at the lumberyard is super rough and looks terrible 4 years later.
