Ive read the threads, i did research all day. Cant seem to find what I'm looking for. Extra long reach pliers. Like 16". I have 11". Besides snap on, i cant seem to find a usa made, or german made brand. Why am i having so much trouble with this? Knipex, channellock, nws, all known for making pliers, dont make them? I see snap on, sunex, and some other offshoot brands. The mac looks nice, but i think there made in china nowadays. And proto, are they still made in usa? Who makes snap on, williams?Confusing times we live in

FWIW I also prefer USA made tools, but own a pair of Crescent (gearwrench) double x pliers that have done everything I've asked. They're also easier to function compared to the single joint pliers when opening them up to their widest point. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00931QI5I/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Cornwell makes them http://www.cornwelltools.com/webcat...-Piece-Long-Reach-Needle-Nose-Pliers-Set.html

I would not be afraid to buy Sunex or Bluepoint though.

Also, Kal tools are made in the USA and did/do make pliers for Mac as well as some others. There is a thread on it somewhere I think. I have a few 11" Mac pliers/cutters that work very nice. I like the spring on the needle nose pliers also. Here's the thread http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27531

Yeah I've been thinking of picking up a pair of those Crescent double-x pliers. Sears carries them and I'm waiting for them to go on sale.

I had that same mind set when I was looking, but they never seemed to go on sale. Matter of fact I saw them on the clearance shelf at hd the other day and they were still $30 something bucks. I bought mine on eBay for like $26 I think. Cripe sells them for a pretty good price.

Ya I thought it was a pretty good price too. I mean, I'd never pay that much, but for a reputable truck brand like that it's a good deal.

I always thought it was weird that Knipex doesn't offer long reach pliers.

I believe the longest Proto's are just shy of 12".

I don't think they have 16" pliers. If they did, Proto most likely would as well. Oddly, Mac does though. All are under Stanley umbrella and usually offer the same products. I can't seem to find any by Proto/Blackhawk though. Only snap ring pliers and groove locks.

Regardless who makes these, $27 isn't that bad of a price for these pliers. I am going to email Mac and ask the coo and who manufactures them. http://www.mactools.com/en-us/Plier.../Python-Long-Reach-Bent-Needle-Nose-Pliers-16

I have a complete set of those. Straight, 45, and three sizes of hose types that i bought off a mac clearance a while back for cheap. I seem to remember I'm in for all 5 for under 50. But there is no COO marking so I'd bet money they're China stuff. Wilmanac I think has a thread that has all the information. I'm pretty sure I provided more details about what I bought in that thread.

Probably some time in the near future, Knipex will actually mass produce them:

Apparently, some years ago in the past, according to a distributor that brought it up, Knipex didn't oblige to the request of making long-reach pliers. It was based on the premise that they didn't want to make them just to console the American tool market/user, where a lot of long-reach pliers were offshore products sold for cheap.

I guessing Knipex now sees differently.

Most of whats been posted in this thread are the 11" KAL rebrands (Klein, Matco, MAC, Proto etc..all sold them). Only USA manufacturer im aware of that makes ones in the 16" range (they're actually 14.5") is Snap-On but they're something like $60-$70 per plier. 415CP and 915CP.

If you don't have cash burning a hole in your pocket just get the Asian models from an established brand like Mountain or Sunex (not HF-seems like they get factory rejects with mis-aligned/poorly ground joints).

I guess it didn't occur to them that there really aren't options for higher quality longer pliers which is why the Chinese stuff sells. It would be nice if they made some hose grip pliers too since I don't think you can even find USA versions anymore.

I just found a set of these at Home Depot on a clearance rack. Paid $7.25 for the pair.

Wow good for you!

Anyone here use the Sunex brand pliers?

Skin, what you said is pretty much what i found. Im just amazed those are the only options. Cant find a nice german brand or European brand. So i guess part 2 to the question, which asian brand makes something quality? Ill probably end up with mac, matco, or cornwell. Anybody own any of these?

I own 11" Mac pliers and cutters and they are really well made. They appear to be the same as the Pro America/Kal long reach pliers. I especially like the spring return feature. If the 16" pliers are the same as the 11", you will be extremely happy. Personally though, I'd say go with the Crescent double x pliers. They're extremely smooth and easy to operate.

The 12" proto's are very, very nice and still US made. E-bay has a very good price on them. I've had mine for almost 2 decades without any issues

This is one area where I don't know why Channellock hasn't entered the market. I'd love some Channellock 11" and 16" long reach pliers...and hose gripping pliers as well.

Hopefully one day they decide to introduce them to their lineup.

Currently have some of the Protos off Ebay, some older Armstrong [made in the USA] and some older Klein [made in the USA]

Create a poll here as to who wants to buy them if Channellock had them available. Send the results to Channellock. A large amount of people might motivate them.

Thought a bit after unlocking. I suppose my arm could be twisted into a "yea".

^ Proamerica makes them now. There's a thread on it HERE:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=305088
go to the last page and start reading the thread backwards and you'll find a mess of photos.

Still waiting on some feedback from both Jeremy V and Silver 11 as to performance/quality under heavy use.

I inquired of Wilde about them and they didn't seem interested in making them part of their product line.
I kind of doubt Channellock would want to add to their line with a relatively oddball item when their main strength is their groove-joint angle-jaw models.
(Of course, considering the "Channellock explosion" thread items that John in OH brought up a couple weeks back, you just never know.)

^ okay.. I seriously got my wires crossed there.. just went back and read the last couple pages in that "ring nose" thread and it was Silver 11 who bought the three-piece Proamerica set. I got mixed up there.

so... we're still waiting to hear from Silver 11, who works at the Toyota dealership.

I don't think my using them to pull a fuel line off a lawnmower is going to qualify as a "real" test by any stretch of the imagination.

thanks for setting it straight.

From Mac tools

This item is manufactured in China by GOALMAC INTERNATIONAL.

Thank you,
Mac tools Customer Service

Here's the link. http://www.goalmactools.com

Oddly though I can't seem to find the long reach pliers on their website. To be honest, the long reach pliers I have from Mac are excellent quality. All the stuff on this website looks kind of crappy.
