I used grease before, but it became too sticky. I use vaseline every time and it works great. I literally, 5 minutes ago, took apart an Easco 1/4" qr round head my uncle gave me Friday night and cleaned it with brake cleaner and a tooth brush, then lubed it up with vaseline. It works great now.

Anyone know who makes a Facom clone in Taiwan ? The selector is different, but the shape of the body is the same down to the grip, even the grip is almost the same.

The facom design has been copied by Hazet and Stahlwille. There are loads of knock offs out there, and others that manage to relabel the Facom design (sk/proto/usag/wurth). Beyond that are lower tier copies of whatever COO relates to the company/or asia. But many, many Facom [engineering] copies exist in the wild.

A regular grease can also be diuted with oil also as to make a wide variety of things work in a pinch.

I have a Facom toolbox, full of Facom tools and I really like them, especially the 1/4 drive nano set!

Thanks Ultgar.

I pulled mine apart twice. It was full of a dried white grease (looked like lithium grease?)

First tried lubing it with a dab of silicon grease which made it skip .Too much/too thick I think.

Then I tried a dry spray silicon lubricant, thats made it a little better. Its still not particularly impressive though compared with some of my other ratchets.

The most interesting/impressive thing I've ever seen put out by Facom was/are their very unusual locking pliers. Some of them are really cool, I love my 500 series. Wish I had more but at 60-80 bucks a pop they're pricey!

I've got a SO FX80 and 3 sizes of Facom palm control (French and Italian made) If you adjust the screw correctly, quite lose with loctite,it has the same smoothness and back drag. They get smoother with age and run better clean with oil rather than grease.

One thing I noticed is the French made sockets I have fit better than the 3/8th deep SO on the FX80 ratchet. Less play all round whilst never get stuck. I think they were made to a closer tolerance.

See post 31 for an some photos of an adapted Facom

These are great ratchets, in the same league as snap on. Designed differently, palm control is held in the palm, hence the size (feature, not a shortcoming).

I thought the meaning of palm control is that the inner chrome ring spins freely allowing you to place pressure onto the head without disrupting the ratchet's ability to spin.

I was just doing some reading on the Facom palm control and here's what it says: • Palm control system - allows the operator to press down on the head avoiding risk of accidental reverse. Looks like you were right Pureleaf. Even though you got rid of yours...

I received my eBay Facoms and they were all the older inset versions made in France ,still in the wrapper.

Anyone know if the repair kit containing the pawl ,screw and spring are the same between the 1/4 and 3/8 drive ratchets ?

I ordered both kits to see if they are the same.
I did not see any of the quick release kits available.
