Factory vehicle tool kits, what cars had them?

Lots of my trips to the junkyard end up with me empty handed. I was thinking next time I head out to the yard, I might keep my open for any cars with some factory tool kits since I find them interesting.
I have a old toyota double open end japanese wrench and a BMW west german DBE which is pretty nice and some wheel chocks from a 73 240z (hopefully I can find the car to go with it at some point )
I know nowadays (past few decades) the vast vast majority of vehicles come only with a jack and a spare. When did companies stop including wrenches and other basic hand tools with their vehicles? Is there any models I should keep an eye open for that had particularly nice or rare tools in them?
I doubt I'll have too much luck since I bet people at the yard pull them out to sell or collectors want them for their own cars, but I enjoy poking around old cars anyway

I have a tool kit from a 87 BMW 325 convertible sitting here, it was attached to the trunk lid at one point. The tray collects condensation/water and the tools rust, but nothing really special in that kit. I did keep the wheel chocks out of both of my turboII rx7s, those are pretty cool.

1980s BMWs. The three series cars had a basic kit with just a couple wrenches but the 5-, 6- and 7- series had a pretty comprehensive one, with a bunch of wrenches, two types of pliers and a couple screwdrivers. They were Heyco, which is a good brand.

Of course, the wrenches are all metric.

All those cars did have tool kits, but chances are you're not going to find any in the junkyards anymore. If you do, you can flip them for big money.

your right stuart, some of the old ones bring BIG bucks, when complete and in good shape. i found a mercedes kit at an estate sale. i couldn't believe the prices i was seeing while trying to figure out what i had.

My 1991 BMW 535i had a similar tool kit. I bought the car new and had it over 25 years, but never had to use the tools. I kept them when I sold the car.

Here's a picture of one, it was for sale on ebay. The details of the kits varied over the years, I think this one is likely mid 1950's form a Series 1 Land Rover. The open end spanner with the cranked end is for reaching the prop shaft bolts.

I still have the kits that came new in my 1994 and 96 Land Rover Defenders, they are more basic just a wheel nut spanner, combination pliers, water pump pliers, double ended screwdriver, 10mm x 13mm open end spanner and 7/16" x 1/2" open end spanner, tyre pressure gauge with valve key, and a threaded plug to put in to the bell housing drain hole to stop water getting on your clutch plate when deep wading. It's all in a flimsy plastic roll.

I think Heyco specialise in supplying tool kits to vehicle and machine manufacturers. Certainly good quality, I have some water pump pliers that came with a new combine harvester in 1965, and am still using them today!

Found an almost complete kit for a Toyota Land Cruiser at a local swap meet a year or so ago. Then found one for a Maybach a month or so ago. That one has some Heyco branded tools.
