Gotta love those fake tool reviews:bounce:. I was browsing the Lowe's website and notice new reviews for the new craftsman tools sets. decided to read some of them and immediately thought there was something off about them, sure enough in the right of the review in small letter "This reviewer received this product for free from Lowe's" was written. Well SBD sure are having a rough start.

I hate those type of reviews, not sure if I have ever seen one less than a 5 star review. If there were some threes and fours, maybe they would be believable. In this day and age you really do need to read the reviews carefully. I was looking at some component speakers and the negative reviews were "there is no bass", well duh, the speakers block out the bass so your subwoofer can deal with it.

Amazon has a lot of those type of reviews. I won't buy anything with those "disclaimer" reviews.

Amazon has a ton of those.. and one trick is make the disclosure at the end of the review, so people have to open the entire reviews to find them.. on easy way to help check on amazon is by looking at the dates of all the reviews. If they are all within a few days of each other, did a little deeper.. there are some products that have only reviews in exchange for product.

Home Depot does this too. Part of their "seed" program.

I bought an intake pipe for my truck off Amazon. I did it because it dresses up the engine and stop my boost gauge from fluttering under full boost. If you know anything about turbos, boost is also a measure of restriction. If you decrease restriction, flow increases but boost decreases. I laughed when the reviews for said intake claimed increased boost and tons of horsepower. In reality you likely gained 0. Definitely not enough to feel a difference on a stock truck.

One of the things I've noticed is these types of products will typically have significantly less than 100 reviews. You will also notice paid reviews to typically be only a few sentences. If it is longer it will almost always include diclaimers even if not 'I was given this product free' they will be along the lines of 'I haven't used them but they 'feel'', etc.

I always like to goto the worst reviews too. Obviously not paid - but you get to see exactly what is dragging the ratings down.. some people just leave 1 stars cause they bought the wrong product or it was the wrong size.. I remember reading one for an automatic cleaning cat pan - and the woman left a horrible review cause her hybrid cats which were twice the size of house cats - filled the pan to quickly..

There are shills everywhere today.

I get my tool reviews from here on GJ. Even then, I pay close attention to the name on the post.

I seldom look at reviews on company websites.

I look for reviews and discussions on forums like garagejournal.

Exactly, some of the negative reviews are almost comical:

'I expected this to be durable but after 3 days of letting my 4 boys run it over with go-karts it broke in half. Typical Chinese junk!!'

'Even though the description said this was not for use in salt water pools I wanted to give it a shot but just like the last set of ductile iron dumbbells I bought these rusted within a few weeks of keeping them at the bottom of the deep end.'

One would love for the Internet to be a source of wisdom but often it is just a comedy show of people whining about their inability to succeed in even the most basic product research. Sometimes stuff is really junk and I appreciate being warned to that fact before I buy it but people clearly pushing items far beyond any reasonable design limits then complaining in a review to attempt to get a refund for removing it ruin the paradigm for the rest of us.

I'm not opposed to writing reviews if I have genuinely used the item. However, I don't waste my time on items selling for less than $10

It's possible that a competitor could leave or pay for fake poor reviews? Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean I'm not watching you:) Unfortunately 'customer' reviews on any website from Amazon to IMDB can be purchased in bulk and will not show a disclaimer.

Websites to check amazon reviews. I've tried them but not sure if they are much help. www.fakespot.com and reviewmeta.com

ON Amazon you can tell the phony reviews by all of the things you guys pointed out plus the reviewer usually only has a few reviews under their belt. Go read the reviews they wrote on other products.
As stated above you need to read the bad and the good and weight things out. Sometimes a product gets a bad review because of the crummy delivery or it showed up broken.
One sentence reviews are almost always useless.

So How do I get Free tools from Lowe's? I will give them an honest and legitimate review.

My pet peeve is when a YouTube channel(s) that I enjoy and trust the opinion of get stuff given to them and they do videos on the stuff before they even use them. I don’t think it’s worth watering down an entire channel just to get a couple hundred dollars in free stuff.

The customer Q&A section is nearly worthless as well. Someone will ask a perfectly reasonable question about the product, and sooner or later some complete idiot will answer "I don't know." What possesses these people? Do they think they're on Facebook?

Recently I found out that some Amazon marketplace sellers game their reviews. If they get a negative product review or seller review, they automatically petition Amazon to remove it based on some trumped-up reason. For instance, a negative seller review might say, "This seller shipped the wrong size shirt three weeks late." The seller complains to Amazon that mentioning the shirt makes it a product review instead of a seller review, and Amazon removes it. Naturally they never do that with a seller review that reads "I love the shirt!"

Of course he's gonna tell his wife he loves a gift.

If any company wants to send me free tools I will guarantee glowing reviews.
I can be trusted, I'm not like the others.

Ill admit no sound and skipping to a shot of each drawer.'carpenter' hammers in 2 different drawers seems like the only real goof.

I'm, uh, not really sure what to say. She was strangely comforting to listen to.

The screwdrivers "biggest to smallest" kinda got me. I like types together. And the new ones he got for Christmas in a seperate drawer? I suppose it could be worse.

Well I think she had good intentions and did a pretty good job considering she doesn't know what half the tools were even for. Plus she knows she owes some sort of payback for that huge ring on her finger:bounce:

Yup, toss the highest and lowest ratings and you get a valid idea of the product. Or spend hours reading every review and never get anything done.

I was looking at some mechanic's gloves from one of the big box store. There were 15 reviews from people who were given the item. Only 1 out of the 15 actually used the gloves before giving a review and didn't give them a freebie plug.

Youtube is being overtaken by these slimy tool reviews and endorsements by channels that were once pretty solid. Good example is BriansMobile1. About a year ago, he interviewed and endorsed some type of super dupper snake oil on his Youtube channel. He was quickly eaten alive in the comments section of the video andnothing more was heard about this product from his lying pie-hole

I recently bought a new Reverse Osmosis system from Amazon. The one I bought had over 3,400 reviews with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars... Sounds pretty good, right?

Well, once I received it - inside the package was a flyer that if you wrote a review, they would send you some free filters. Kind of made me think, so I went to the website FakeSpots, and sure enough they gave that product an F Rating.

Now I am happy with the filter but it makes you think when one of the main reasons you bought that particular system was the number of reviews and the rating...

"Tread lightly, this product may contain a major number of unreliable or low quality reviews!"

https://www.fakespot.com/product/ap...-osmosis-drinking-water-filter-system-roes-50

ps - I did write a review and got my free filters, but it was not a 5-star review. I gave my honest opinion

Also - at the start of any Amazon review, look for VINE program. VINE reviewers are top Amazon reviewers and usually get the product for free

Amazon is really hit/miss. There are a number of Chinese vendors moving in on there that padd the reviews in their favor.

Small story,

I went to buy a Tile (key/cell phone locator) and saw a number of knock-offs with great reviews and replaceable batteries (Tiles must be sent back). Bought a knock-off (2 actually) and found them and the app to be non-functional on 2 different phones. I got suspicious and read about a dozen of the reviews and while the names were very American the writing in many had that chinglish grammar going on and kept mentioning the same types of sentences "lost Key, X product find with press button!!!". The reviews written correctly were, unsurprisingly, largely negative with most like myself getting a non-working product.

Long story short the company was padding the reviews big time. They were thorough about it too having the accounts as "verified purchasers" and many with photos while also voting their fake reviews as most helpful. During the process I also discovered this site https://www.fakespot.com/ that identifies similarities in writing such as key words and whether most reviews are all positive.

I would let her organize my tools.

Guessing a lot of guys suggested she could come by and organize their tools, or how they never need an extension when they drill, hence the "disabled comments".

Bingo. I only read 3 star and below, because people who say everything is perfect is already suspect. Besides you get 5 stars to rate an item, 1 star is 20%, 5 is 100%, so 3 star (60%)is considered a “poor rating”. Survey systems hate anything less than 4 cause it means they failed miserably, so naturally they fluff reviews.

Craftsman needs the validation, but they honestly aren't earning it. The only places i see reviews where people are brutally honest are on newegg.com, and the poor ratings, usually have support reach out and work with the reviewer to remedy the neg feedback. That’s how it should be
