I drive past a lot of shops around here on farms that look like they would be knockouts. And big too. If you have a farm shop to show off....let's see it!

There have been a lot of buildings put up in just the last 3 years, and you are right. There are some very nice ones.

It's funny you bring this up Ben. I get inside a lot of these shops, and it's amazing what you can find, both good & bad.

I've seen shops with every tool imaginable, but not used, and lesser shops that get used beyond their limits.

Too many of them end up getting used for storage.

I have seen a couple on back roads with glass french doors on them. Can't imagine. Some look like the farm office is at one end, with the shop at the other. I'm always impressed with a farmer who can fix just about anything, with anything.

My farm shop. Built in 1917 to house livestock and to store hay in the upstairs (haymow). Was in pretty sad shape when we moved to the farm in 1976. Converted to a farm shop over the years. Now that I no longer actively farm, it serves as a woodshop and workshop for my car hobby.

Cheers:beer:

The converted barn is nice, good use. I would be lost without my shop, I see some competitors with crappy shops, poor or marginal shop skills or poorly organized and their stuff looks like junk, even if they manage to keep things going it depreciates quickly, limps along, becomes a junk collection in short order. One thing I really wanted when I built my new one was a good way to paint, it really helps maintenance, even just the psychological value is huge, everyone takes way better care of stuff when it looks nice and equipment doesn't look like a lost cause. I use a lot of older machinery, sheet still happens, we do as much as we can to keep it from happening but most problems are isolated when it does, don't have to look at a piece and wonder where to start, fix whats wrong and go.
I also live on back roads, 2 miles min to the nearest pavement, car/truck maint is way higher, wheels off brake insp are the normal at every service interval, I keep a tight ship with it, keep them from becoming generally dilapidated and head off problems early.
Even when busy the repairs run on as they come up and pit stop type jobs are fairly easy and common, not starved for room even with multiple projects.

My 80 x 40. Perpetual work in progress. So much to do and so little time.

Next project is to OSB siding the walls, wire 110V/220V with EMT and install proper lighting.

A sublime setting along a river in the Pacific Northwest.
