Favorite drawer in your box?

First thing, was the Frankenratchet. I'd never heard of that, but now I use that HF jewel without fear. When I checked out, the HF cashier smiled and said, "I know what you're building. I've got one too! "

Then the Gearwrench ratchets came in. I had never treated myself to those. I now have a set of 120's which I picked up online for a steal.

The Mac ratchets were after that, and I haven't been let down one bit. They feel comfortable in the hands, even after a long day of wrenching.

I bought the locking extensions, and I haven't used them much, but the few times I did, I like their utility.

A few other things, but mainly- your organization is the most valuable thing I picked up.

As I said in a different thread, I showed your video in a company meeting, and instantly, I saw my crew organizing differently and taking better care of their tools.

You're setting a good example for your son, on taking care of the things that mean something. Keep it up.

So my question is, when is the next video coming out?

I don't have pics at the moment because I'm in the middle of a move but would have to be my vise grip drawer. Lots of time and effort hunting down made in the USA vise grips.

There is spill over in a caddy in my locker of most used stuff.
There are several smaller drawers full of more electrical bits and bobs

Where did u get that plastic organizer? I need some of them. That is a thin 2" snap on drawer correct?
My hf ones don't fit in my new snappy box 2" drawers

Im in the market for wrench rails but not sure what to buy. They will lay down in drawer so need easy access. Had a couple in the past and didn't like them because it was a carry style. Really held the wrench to tight to pull out of the drawer.

I bought the long shark tooth ones that stick to the liners of your box, I got them off the snap on truck

I could show you my drawers but all of you with OCD would go into shock. Even my socket drawer is piled deep.
But it looks like a good place to get ideas on organizers that are easy to use and don't cost a lot. I would like to organize my sockets. It is the only drawer that makes sense to do. I bought some of those rows which the sockets snap into and tossed that idea quickly.

Sure, no prob.

I didn't invent this, I actually got this recipe from MechanicNamedJohn in his YouTube Tool Box Long Tour, Part 1.

First, get this breaker bar:


Then, get this ratchet:


Take the heads off of both the breaker bar and the ratchet.

Swap the 3/8" head, to the breaker bar, and you end up with the Frankenratchet:


And, it's tough as all get out. Hold onto your receipts, for warranty on everything. I've beat the heck out of this ratchet, and it's never given up.

There may be, I didn't look into that. When I learned of the recipe for that build, I was focused on finding the same ingredients, so to speak.

You may be able to find a indexable, head that is less expensive to fit that purpose.

If you find one, please let me know. I'd like to test it out.

its a craftsman plastic socket rail, that's just trimmed to fit. it obviously isn't sturdy enough to stand up on its own, but this way it keeps the extensions organized, and stops them from rolling around in the drawer.

The yellow tape is just for identification, so as to not confuse my extensions with other peoples tool in the shop.

does it help spin them by hand with the tape? i prefer extensions with a knurl for this reason, but i bet i could put some of that grip tape on my plain ones. you gave me an idea and didnt know it.

the tape actually does help a bit to spin the manually, though that wasn't the original reason for having the tape. The knurling does work well, but now that I think about it, I do usually spin them by grabbing the taped area, so I guess it does help with the grip.

^ heat shrink works pretty well too! My favorite drawer is probably my wrench drawer in my cart. Everything from stubbies (Husky) to standard length up to 15/16" sae and metric. Flare nut sae, (all Blackhawk satin finish) Gearwrench flexheads and straight non-reversable metric Gearwrenches. Even a couple of "benders" in there I bent for certain jobs. If I didnt have to try to make book time or head to the mothership for a larger wrench, I could do a lot out of that drawer alone.

Yes, but you can rough it up a bit and it works well..its pretty durable.

One of the router attachments for your Dremel makes the job very easy! Just outline your tools and go at it.. I was able to complete my standup box in about a day
