First, I hope this won't take a nose dive and will stay on track!

Second, I know there is already a HF pass/fail thread but

I'm wondering what is your favorite(or two or three) HF tools that you have bought. Based on value, quality, etc. Basically a HF pass list for tools you buy because you only plan on using them once in a while or because they are decent quality for the price. When I buy tools I try to buy the best quality I can afford, also considering how often I will use the tool. So most of my HF tools are ones that I will only use occasionally.

Here's one for me, the engine support. On sale right now for 60 bucks before 20% coupon. Good price and decent quality, especially for something I won't use often at all. http://www.harborfreight.com/1000-lb-capacity-engine-support-bar-96524.html. I thought about making one but after seeing ths one in store it looked decent and cost less then it would have cost me to make something of similar quality.

Another is the 800LB transmission jack, http://www.harborfreight.com/800-lb-capacity-transmission-jack-3185.html. 139 right now, think I paid 129. Worked great and should last for the few trannys I will need to swap out.

So what are your good, surprise, value tool purchases from HF?

The composite ratchets in 1/4", 3/8" & 1/2" as well as the swivel-head ratchets in the same sizes.

The breaker bars.

The impact sockets.

The Earthquake air tools.

The hammer-drill.

The multi-tool (the Fein clone).

The 42" toolboxes.

Pretty much this!

As somebody who LOVES HF.

My most recent favorite tool would have to be my 3/8" Impact Wrench I got for $9.99

Not as powerful as a top brands so you don't haveto worry about over-torquing, yet powerful enough to spin upwards of 21mm sockets off, all the while being compact enough for anything 10mm and up

I have had good luck with the Harbor Freight 90 Amp Flux Core welder. I bought it to build the roof trusses over my work area. The welder is light enough to carry up a ladder and move around on pieces of 2 by 4 up in the air. It welded my 12 gauge C shaped perlin nicely with .035 flux core wire. Set right and used carefully it will do nice welds. I don't know how long it will last, but I have more then gotten my money back with all the welding I have done with mine.

I have had mine since i worked there 4 1/2 years ago, still going strong. And yes they can do decent welds (at least to the eye) but i do nothing structural with mine.

I bought a30 gal compressor when i worked there also. Its been outside for years same oil. Starts no problem every time in cold and heat. Not bad for like 50 bucks.

Air pin and Staplers are decent, i use them frequently to repair furniture. Want to try a framing gun but dont want to spend the money to just try though.

Doh! Since I'm a daily visitor :p, and know the manager on a first name basis she took 20% an already cheapened coupon I had, because it was an opened box, manual insert damaged etc. It was around like $12 with tax wasn't exactly $9.99, but the gun itself still had the air valve cap on, couldn't beat the price so I bought both sets of the 3/8" 8pc impacts in sae & metric in shallow! Don't even get me started on how awesome they are!

Edit: It has an advertised max torque of 75lbs/ft, and I'm really thinking f buying a 1/2" clicker and torquing my lugnuts to exactly 75fts just to see how well this baby really works!

It'd be awesome to see when the Mac 1/2" gun has to come out, or when I can be astonished over the ability of a compact $9 gun.

I'd say that some of the best buys I've found at HF are the DrillMaster Drill Bits. For general automotive and around the garage use - they are excellent quality, stay sharp longer than bits costing two to three times as much.

29 Piece 135° Degree Split Point Cobalt Drill Bit Set $59.99 *@#$*@#$*@#$*@#$*@#$ on sale}
I Have paid three times this much for "brand name" bits - and these are better.

DrillMaster 29 Piece Titanium Nitride Coated Drill Bit Set $27.99 *@#$*@#$*@#$*@#$*@#$ on Sale for $19.99 or less}
Excellent and amazingly good for the money. That would be true if they were twice the price.
http://www.harborfreight.com/29-piece-titanium-nitride-coated-drill-bit-set-5889.html

Then I usually grab a few 10 Packs of the smaller diameter bits in 1/16", 3/32", 7/64" etc. Because I seem to not hold the drill motor straight enough with these smaller bits.. and I snap them off.. Plus use them a lot for pilot holes in steel.

DrillMaster 13 Piece Titanium Nitride Coated Drill Bits - 1/4" hex shank $9.99

3 Piece Titanium Nitride Coated High Speed Steel Step Drills
Used these for three years now - very handy indeed.

Impact grade sockets for use on my rachets
Professional grade electric tools for use in my house shop

The whole aisle of racheting straps
Cheap enough and can tighten them enough to play like a guitar

The plastic ratchets are not as bad as they sound. They're actually decent go to tools for light duty tasks.

The multimeter is also decent for basic tasks since the price is usually right (ie free).

Their 2.5qt heated ultrasonic cleaner is also decent.

I was struggling to figure out what my "favorite" HF tool is, but you reminded me of why I like that multimeter. I was a professional electronics tech and manufacturers rep for 30 years or so, using Fluke's products. But now gone from that business, I own several of those HF multimeters thinking if one went bad I would use another one. After a few years of owning those I have yet to see one go bad, or even be out of calibration for my needs. They are easily my favorite tool. :)

I'll second the little Chicago flux core welder. I've built a few heavy duty laminate carts for a local print shop, a sign frame, and I loaned it to a gentleman rancher who used it for who-knows-what.

Very short duty cycle and lots of plastic parts, but use it gently and it works quite well.

$7 pneumatic die grinder.
My all-time favorite thing from HF was the 4" magnetic tray that I got a whole bunch of for $1, but since it's not a "tool", the die grinder takes its place in this thread.

i feel this is appropiate, and its def my most valued hf purchase, the pacific hydro star 2.5hp, 1.5in gas powered water pump.

once it got going after sitting for a year with gas in it(thanks dad) it worked like a champ. it is kinda hard to restart when its hot though, you only feel pull for about the last 8inches of the cord but it starts right up

http://shopping.yahoo.com/794257248-1-12-clear-water-pump-with-25-hp-gas-engine/ they no longer make this model.

we may buy the 3'' trash pump soon as well. that supposedly pumps over 250gpM
