So what is your favorite old snap-on ratchet? (THATS NOT the dual 80)

I have a f710 that is nice and smooth. Just got a f936 it does need greased but first impressions are not good. Very heavy back drag and loud. The bad part is it's a FOD so I cannot just open it up to clean and grease it.

Of the older snap on ratchets, I prefer the 36 tooth series. I don't use grease on the internals, just oil. I find that they get smoother with heavy use.

They do seem to break in with use.

36's for me. I use superlube in them. I keep them in my travel box, so they don't see much use.

936 series is all good. If you want a set fairly cheap Williams USA ratchets are just slightly modified(marked williams with different handle shape and contour on head) with same internals.

I had a 1970s quick release ratchet that I liked. When it finally needed attention, the Snap-On representative replaced it with the new 80 tooth. I like it, but miss the quick release feature. I had a Craftsman half inch with that feature also, but it was stolen from me.

Well, I've only ever owned one snap on ratchet in my life, my FL749 10" long handle 3/8" drive. It's very smooth. It has a nice handle. Outside of the black plastic switch mechanism to change ratchet directions I think it's a good looking ratchet. The only major "downfall" is that the ratchet mechanism is fairly difficult to remove with the way the retainer clip is inset. But that's a very minor inconvenience and I'm not hard on it so it doesn't get very dirty. A little Superlube will last me years before it needs relubricated or cleaned. Maybe one day I can hand it down to someone. I also bought it for about $40 so not a bad price in my opinion for a quality ratchet with good teeth and little wear. Can add pictures later.
