Favorite Spark Plug Gap Tool?

What is your favorite, or most used spark plug gapping tool?

Mine is the thrid one from the left in this picture:

I've always liked the wire gauge rather than the wedge type, but did put a lot of hours on the AC one in the pic when I worked in a motorcycle shop in the 1970's.

I personally prefer that type of "tool" versus the hole in some of the others the OP pictured as it allows you to open AND close the gap wheras the hole type only work to open the gap.

Unless I don't know how to use the other type?

I was taught the wire gauge was the most accurate. Here is one that has been in my tool box for over 40 years and was in my father's tool box before that.

This, or the round one favored by Steevo. Usually grab the round one as the fold out job is in a pouch. Of course, the only plugs I gap these days are lawnmower & edger once a year.

Yeah, me too. I'm old school though. Back years ago, spark plugs had more to measure than today and consequently had peaks and valleys from arcing. The wire gauge worked great! But last time I checked my plugs, a wire gauge didn't make any difference on the tiny filament they have in plugs now, or least mine.

A what, gap tool? . Even as a Diesel mechanic student, I keep spark plug sockets in my toolbox. I've never gapped them though, never had any issues.

Old thread but where can one find the AC one?

I have three of the round ones and they ALL read different on the same spark plug... it's such a PITA, it's like I have to "average" my results between the three.

I see nothing but junk on amazon so having an older tool is fine by me as long as it's quality.

I have the AC Delco one that's been pictured several times. Also have the Ullman one that's pictured. Both seem good. I also have a wire gauge one similar to the Proto one pictured but it's labeled Craftsman. I also have a round Lang wire gauge and a round Lisle wire one as well. Usually go with whatever I grab first. Or it depends on which gap i need. They don't all do the same size.

They do have/make/sell a second larger gap wheel. You can either have two tools or spend a minute changing the gap wheel.

I also have lots of different feeler gauges...wire type, flat bade but my fav is the same style you point out.

The coin type rides my keychain but the new plugs are cutting into it some making me question the accuracy.

I have a nice wire folding type that I trust sizing more but it doesn't cover all the sizes we go to. Been hunting for a more ranged model.

Meanwhile the coins ride and I toss them as they wear.

Numerous spark plug manufacturers recommend not touching the center electrode when gapping. For that reason, I do not use the ramp style. I prefer the type that bends the tang only, and check with a real feeler gauge.

I've used a few different gauges but I always seem to come back to the round ones that you get at Autozone. They make gapping a bit easier.
