Fein ASCM 18 QX

I too wasn't really sure what to expect price wise but this is a bit steep for me considering there is no blade kit included, blades are expensive for these things. That and I need to buy the adapter to use my current Bosch blades. I understand this is an amazing tool at a great price.

Personally, I would be more inclined to purchase this to replace my current cordless if it came with an accessory kit.

I also love my drill! It is my garage/shop diva.

Ah, I was just joking about the lack of a resounding HOORAY for me and the SuperCut deal. We're still friends, I guess.

I realize this doesn't have the mass appeal of the drill. I worked to get this deal because there were calls by some for a cordless MM or Supercut to go with the drill. This is the deal we were able to work.

It'll be a killer deal for the right folks who use their tools to make a living or who appreciate the quality of German-made tools.

I hear ya on the impact, it's next on my list.

It's an awesome deal. I think the drill hit a sweet spot were people were really excited to get in on the deal $150 200 is where people are willing to jump for a spontaneous purchase. I really want a new cordless omt so it hits home more. I get both why some people are not as excited. I think people are still excited about the supercut

The promo price is $299. I went ahead and flipped the switch on the price since you guys seemed eager, even though I haven't sent our email out yet announcing it.

This kit runs $499 and up everywhere else on the web. Just have a look. So, I think at $200 off, it's a sweet deal. But, value is in the eyes of the buyer.

As a comparison, even the corded Supercut starts at $369. And the Festool Vecturo is $440.

If you snagged one of the drills, you score an extra set of batteries and another charger to boot.

Just curious to hear from guys who are thinking of buying the SuperCut instead of or in addition to the multimaster and why? What kind of jobs are you going to do with it? It's cordless which is cool. (I think they're might be a MM cordless version out? -- my MM is corded). Shane was cool enough to answer several emails in detail as I was interested in a systainer case (with insert!) for the MM that I bought from Home Depot (just the basic kit they had for I think $149 or $199 way way back) -- if I can find an insert (or material that I can use as an insert), I'd love to get an extra systainer case for the MM.

Anyone have issues with the LED light? Just got my drill today and everything works fine but the light doesn't come on at all. Might have to get a replacement..pretty disappointed. Drill seems nice though.

The SuperCut is the only oscillating tool which can handle the abuse of removing windshields for example. So if you work on cars the SC is the easiest and fastest way of removing windshields and rear windows etc. from cars, buses, vans etc.

I found a really cool video of someone using a corded Super Cut. It's in Russian, but I think it's intending to show how long the Fein long life blades last. The guy does some cool wood shaping with it to make decorative pillars for a cottage.

Someone had asked earlier in the thread of the Metabo quick release chuck and the Fein were interchangeable. I tested them today and they're not. They appear very similar but are of different diameter. The Metabo's is smaller, so it won't fit onto the Fein. I didn't want to even risk my drill trying the Fein's larger diameter onto the Metabo in actual use. Its just a sloppy fit.

I also thought this was a great deal and bought one. I had it delivered to a US address I have in NY state and was there today to pick it up. Unfortunately I also got the 2.0 Ah batteries, my box does have the QXC on it. (the drill and the case look awesome)

BTW, I think I said it already, but we did go through the rest of our inventory to make sure no more drills were shipped with the wrong batteries. There were a few others we found. Sorry to those affected. And, for what it's worth, we've never stocked the QXC with the 2.0Ah so it's not an inventory mix up.

Probably depends on how expensive they are. My Milwaukee M12 LED lights were 50$+. They have a lot more LEDs and I'd imagine throw more light than that Fein. However if those Feins were at a sufficiently lowish price to grab a couple I'd love to have 4 moveable LED lights for working on stuff in dark corners.

According to a thread over on the FOG forum, the ALED is a new product that Fein just introduced this fall. I've emailed our guy at Fein to get the details. Will post as soon as I get some info.

Specs are 900 lux at 1 meter.

Quick answer from Fein on the LED light... not available in the U.S. No word on future availability. Bummer, looked like a nice accessory.

Also... if you're on the fence about snagging one of these drills, I don't think we're going to have them much longer based on inventory.

I think it´s pretty awesome ! I did drive in some 8mm thick wood screws in second gear ! Thats a lot i think for a 10,8 volt tool ! Unreal torque ! Finally you also can drill efficiently because of the 2500 rpm top speed....if you do woodworking....or for small diameters in alu or steel...perfect !! Slim handle, belt hook, magnetic bit holder for 4 bits, tool made in germany, german made chuck, brushless motor, very good built quality....."Fully loaded".... I ordered one directly at the exhibition where i took the pics The best 10,8 volt drill on the market i think

The 10,8 volt "Multitalent" (Multimaster) is pretty nice too ! I don´t know if you still need 18 volt tools if you have these Fein 10,8 (12) volt tools....

the light is brand new, they only had these prototypes but they should be on sale now (over here) i guess you have to wait until 2016

I've not gotten any heads up from Fein about new products coming. Like Festool, they tend to have delay between when new products are introduced in Europe and when we see them in the U.S., if at all.

Let me hit up my Fein guy and see if I can get any intel.

Ha ha! I don't know if people saw it, but shortly after this deal came along, there was a deal for a Fein Drill and Impact for $159. The consensus here was that the Fein impacts are outdated Milwaukees so there wasn't much interest.

I just did a quick search and found what you were talking about. The drill wasn't the same, but was the impact the comparable impact to the ASCM18QX?

EDIT: I just read that there may not even be a German impact. Say it ain't so?!

Tried this tonight with a wire cup, stripping paint from an old toolbox, in a few corners I couldn't reach with the angle grinder and flap disc.

At speed setting 4, WOW did it strip paint and take out surface rust. Glossy steel where there had been crud covering old paint a moment before.

Also, after a couple of 30 second sessions with the cup at max speed the metal section of the drill gets very warm, not quite hot to the touch but not far from it. The spinning cup heated up the corners of the toolbox as well; I was leaning into it a little but on clutch setting 12 so not at max. Battery and everything else were cool to the touch, just the metal section where the gearing is heated up.

Drill worked fine throughout but thought I'd give an fyi on the heat.

You might want to take a few breaks if your using 4th gear. At that speed its moving pretty near twice as fast as the new M18 Gen 2 fuel drill
