does anyone know what the base of this looks like? I'm sure we have it but knowing what it looks like helps. And how old is it

The instructions have a line drawing illustration that includes the base. There is also an ebay listing for the instructions.

The crown logo likely puts it in the 1960s, but the instructions may be more informative. Vintage Machines has quite a lot of helpful information, and Craftsman catalog pdfs are on Blackburn Tools website.
Eventually someone who actually owns one like your dad's will reply on your thread.
Dunno about the farm level.
I like the Irwin bracebit set. Good design. I see you have the manual with them - Good. DON'T use them with power tools; Don't cut off the square end. Don't try to sharpen them. There's a specific file and a specific technique to use. I have a set that wasn't sharpened properly. I think they can be salvaged, but I haven't made it a priority.

I've never sharpened mine I normally send em out to moms dad and he does with a grinder but I'm not gonna sharpen these. If need be I will learn and I guarantee we have a file for them. And yes I know drill bits like this tend not to work with power drills anyway. I need to get a new old hand drill dunno where mine is.

I checked on Vintage Machines. The 335 prefix probably means it was manufactured for Sears by Welliver & Sons in Rockford, Illinois, but I didn't find any information beyond that. Good luck with the search for the right base.

The Craftsman "Crown-top" logo was in use from 1962-1974, iirc. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears you placed the "drill press" on a drill press?

If it's what I think it is, it's a portable/home drill press that adapts a hand held drill for use as a drill press. Simply secure your favorite drill to it using the U-bolts and viola! The base of it looks similar to a large drill press but much smaller and lighter.
