The instructions have a line drawing illustration that includes the base. There is also an ebay listing for the instructions.

The crown logo likely puts it in the 1960s, but the instructions may be more informative. Vintage Machines has quite a lot of helpful information, and Craftsman catalog pdfs are on Blackburn Tools website.
Eventually someone who actually owns one like your dad's will reply on your thread.
Dunno about the farm level.
I like the Irwin bracebit set. Good design. I see you have the manual with them - Good. DON'T use them with power tools; Don't cut off the square end. Don't try to sharpen them. There's a specific fike and a specific technique to use. I have a set that wasn't sharpened properly. I think they can be salvaged, but I haven't made it a priority.
