I just got back from a "honey-drag" to Linens 'n' Things. I despise the store, and basically everything in it.

However, they are going out of business, and are now selling everything. I mean EVERYTHING, including the industrial shelving, pallet racks, and back room shelving... Lights too.

I got 2 nice 4', 4xT8 fluorescent fixtures for $20 each, 5x 8' pieces of shelf railing, and 12 shelves (4x 24" deep wire, 7x 18" deep solid steel, and 2x 14" deep solid steel). The shelves are $6, the railings were free with the shelves.

Grand total, with 5% MA tax: $117.
They close in 3 days, so hurry over, and you'll be able to replace that rickety plywood shelving with solid steel.

The one at the new Wareham Plaza, in Wareham, MA. They've been open less than 6 months, and everything is still new. I went into the back for my wire shelving, its never been installed, and has no scratches, rust or marks on it. Amazing. The manager was pretty friendly, letting us take the railings for free with the shelving. Thats the key, the railings. Bring a screw gun and a long phillips bit if you go. Luckily for us, there's a Lowes right next door, so we bought 2 cheap Phillips screwdrivers, but after an hour of unscrewing the railings, we were pretty sore.

I'm usually tired after 15 minutes of screwing, so I can imagine how tired you would get unscrewing for an hour... :lol_hitti I will have to check out the local one to me in Sturbridge. Thanks for the information...

LOL.... I'm about to start some screwing of my own, if you catch the drift.

Wait, are we talking about shelving anymore?

I scored some commercial shelving out of an old drug store several years ago.

I split the double sided stanchions effectively making two out of one. Then I welded on tabs to match up with the purlins in my shop building.

The only down side is that items pushed to far to the back can fall through the crack. I'll fix that when the right sheet metal scabs come along.

You beat me to it!

I just picked up the shelving from the warehouse section. 12' high and 4' wide. I bought 4 sections for $100. Got 40 shelves with them. I am planning to cut the uprights in half and make 8 6' shelves. Shelves are 24" deep.

Great find!

I bought 6 4'x8' sheets of slatwall from a closing LnT. It's has an alum look foil finish with the alum. inserts in the grooves. Paid $15/sheet. It was a PITA to get off. Tiny square headed screws, some of which were stripped, and they Liquid Nail'ed them to the wooden frame structure. Had to use an impact on some of the screws, but the Liquid Nails suckkkked. Lots of banging and cussing.

I asked to buy some hooks and brackets. The guy just told me to take what I wanted. I got a shopping basket full!

They were selling everything: shopping carts, dollies, file cabinets, safe, store room shelves, ladders, etc.

Their managers must make up their own prices. I had a friend who tried another LnT and they wanted $50/sheet.

Yeah - I wanted the slatwall (our store has tons) but they want $50 / sheet. I'll keep offering $15 until they get desperate enough to say yes..

I think it was Goody's that closed in Gainesville recently that we hit.

Got 2 school type lockers with 15 compartments each, 3 8' folding tables, a shoe rack that we tried to use in our closet but was just too big, 6 sets of shelves.......something else I can't think of.

I wouldn't believe the 3 days thing either. The Goody's store said last 10 days for about 3 weeks. When sales would slow down they'd take a day off.

Try and have them call the manager to bargain with them. They may not budge much but as it gets closer to the end they will.

Oh we got 2 55gal garbage bags full of hangers. My wife then went around and exchanged all the hangers in the house with them. Drove me nuts.

I looked at those too, but the plywood was pretty warped, and I didn't like the attachment system. Those little metals tabs looked like a pain in the rear, plus they were too tall for me to reach, or to fit in our Honda Fit. We fit all 5 sections of 8' rail, and 12 shelves, plus the 2 fluorescent fixtures in the Fit, and had room for both of us.

Additionally, I needed wall-mount shelving only, no room in front of the shelving for the legs to stick down. I'm trying to use as much wall space as possible without impacting potential car-room on the floor, or up about 6'. These shelves will be across the wall, 24" down for the 24" shelves, and another 18" down for the 18" shelves. Its'll be room for all my boxes of stuff, which are organized into "Fabrication parts" "Tubing/piping" "Welding Equipment" and "Misc Honda Parts 1-4", etc. my garage just doesn't have enough floor space for 24" deep shelving and a car in both bays.

I got a bunch of heavy duty stock room shelves out of a candle shop at the mall when they went out of business. Like 5 or 6 of them I think. I painted all the wood shelve inserts with white paint to seal them against oil.

One problem with them coming out of a candle store...on warm days, it smells like the whole back of my shop was decorated by the Queer Eye guys. The smell of those candles soaked into the wood and still comes out even under the paint! I've got one of the shelves in my storage closet, with spray cans of paint and car cleaning products, and I can still detect the candles a few years later.

All of them are closing up. I went into my local one the other day to pick up another pillow for my dorm and they literally had nothing except ugly bedspreads and all the shelving. They have awesome stainless steel shelves for fairly cheap, I think they were getting $60 for a 3 or 4 shelf rack. Heavy gauge too, definitely better than the stuff commonly sold at lowes or Home-desperate
