After working in my attached 20'x 27' two car garage for 25 years, I'm finally building a shop. I will be building a 40'x 50' post and frame shop with 12' wall height. I build old trucks as a hobby and dabble in wood/various other projects. The shop will have a 10'x 9' and a 16'x 9' roll door with one walk through door. I will also be installing a 2 post 10k floor lift. Because I'm getting too old to work on the floor anymore!

I have already completed the preparation work for the build site. There were 2 trees that had to be removed complete with stumps pulled, as one stump will be a under a corner of the slab. There was also an 18'x 30' metal building already in the middle of the construction site. I have moved it intact away from the build site. I'm the general contractor for the job, so I have already pulled my permits. Most of the building materials are already on site. With a tentative start date of 9 August.

With the prices of 2x4s these days ... I am thinking of getting a small sawmill and your trees may have been a good source of fresh lumber... Of course then it would need to be dried which would hold up the build ... Cant wait to see the results of your plans

I had previously thought of this myself. The only problem with that approach is that you can't use ungraded wood for structural purposes. It would not pass inspection for builds requiring permits.

IIRC there are lumber inspectors that you can hire to grade and stamp custom milled lumber.

But by the time you find one and then wait for them to be available your probably better off buying stamped lumber lol.

Day two. The crew got this far by 10:00 this morning and knocked off for the day since they couldn’t go any further without an inspection. The inspector did make it about 1:30 this afternoon. So the guys will be here Monday to put concrete in the holes and remove the bracing. Then we will wait for the concrete crew to form and pour the slab.

I picked up the Ditch Witch this evening and played for a little while in the evening shade. I started about 5:00 and dug both trenches, washed the trencher and had it loaded back on the trailer by 7:00. I was pleased with how well it went. This is the first time I have used one of these machines.

I passed the electrical/conduit inspection today. When I returned home from work I grabbed my rake and shovel and started back filling the trench. There was light rain in the area but I wanted it filled before the heavy rain from Ida set in tonight. Sorry, no pictures tonight. It was too late and I was too tired! Now to get the concrete crew scheduled.

@Lookin4'67Galaxieconv thanks for the compliment on my yard! If you like the back yard you will really like the front yard. I just maintain the back but the front has had a little work done to it. When the shop build is complete I will post some before and after pictures from the front yard view.
