Finally Building My Detached Garage, Build Thread

Why is that?

When it's ******* down the flow of water coming out of that spout will be going across the roof instead of downwards & will get under the shingle edge directly above it.

Just need a doohicky on the end to direct the flow down the roof.

Or possibly extend it down the roofline so it dumps directly into the gutter below it.

Adding a sideways downspout bend to the end of your current one to direct the water down the roof should do it. I did the same with mine.

Thanks. The space above is open storage right now, but is roughed in to be a one bedroom apartment, for Buzz Lightyear who is going to commute to work in England from here everyday.

KYGTP...I know you have already thought about it, but I noticed you questioned the painted post. Check out a site called www.polewrap.com. This may be an alternative, but I really think the paint looks good and I really don't see it getting that dirty. Maybe clear coat it to clean easier. Just my $.04 worth (inflation).

Once again, I ended up with a great painter, they did a great job on it that is for sure!!

The other post, he edited the pic and put white on the post, when in fact it is still black, he just did that to show me what it would look like IF I painted it white. I think I will keep it black though, or wrap it, I'll just have to see.

Yeah, the painter though it would be good to put the red and grey on it just so you would see it better, but I think there is enough room in there to avoid it, but then again, you never know.

Not a problem, I am glad to share this eveyone. This has been fun AND you guys have helped me make some of my decision as well.

What are your plans for baseboard in the garage? I would go with rubber base for ease of cleaning. Very nice shop. I have shop envy. I have 2 shops, 1 for wood and 1 for motorcycles and they are both too small.

Yes, we are going with a black rubber base board that will be glued down, so that it keeps the water out from under the walls, IF I ever want to spray it out.

Plus, I don't need anything fancey, its just a garage

The pole won't be a problem of there's to be a workbench or something next to it...Even a split workbench so it sticks up through the middle of it

Having just looked at the location of the pole in realtion to where the lift will be I think having a (possibly mobile) bench right next to the pole is a great idea.

The pole is in between the first and second bay, you would have to pull your car in sideways to even hit it. The post for the lift will be about 4 feet behind that pole.

I plan on making a mobile bench, with tool boxes installed under it, I am think of getting 2 of the HF boxes and mounting them in a frame and use that when I am working on stuff.

well, today I had some time, so I decided to clean up the floor the best that I could get it. It was pretty dusty from all the drywall and such so I hosed it out and scubbed a little with a brush that I have on a pole. And of course, I have pics, not that big of a deal, but here you go:

If you look next to the wall, you can see what it used to look like:

You gotta love when you put in floor drains and the water does not make it there that well. It is a good thing I don't plan on washing my car in here:

I ended up getting all of the driveway labor for free because of that ^^



Oh and here is a pic of my OCD hose reels perfectly lined up, well close enough:

You know, I just realized, during this whole build, I have never really showed you one of the main reason I need more, the garage on my house if TRASHED and driving me nuts. Take a look.

Oh yeah, that is a shelf that is on wheels that slides out to make it easier to get the saw and all the other **** on there out from underneith the bench. I built that when I first moved into my house 6 yrs ago.

^Me like! Nothing like making life easier on yourself. I'm still considering buying those stands that go under bike center stands to make moving them around easier. Gotta think of something for bikes that don't have a centerstand, though both mine have one at the moment.

Everything on wheels sure makes for better use of space as well. Though I do like the bench that came with my garage, quite solidly built into the garage, and good for quite a bit of weight and whacking around.

Well I had to work late and by the time I got home, it was too dark to post anything. Don't worry, I get to posting more stuff.

Update from the past two days:

Monday, alot went on. The Power co finally came out and set my meter to get power to garage, even though the electrician still needs to do all of his stuff, but we are ready to go.

THe Propane Co came back out and burried the gas line and got it hooked up to the furnace and the hot water heater.

The HVAC guys were out and started all of their stuff and finished most of all of the install today. They just need to set the AC unit outside and hook it and test everything.

The painter has been out the past couple of days and got all the doors painted, all the trim and touch ups on the walls that needed it.

I also parked IN the garage for the first time on Sunday night, and boy, it was nice getting in a car with no frost on it in the morning.

My Contractor seems to think that by the end of NEXT week, they will be finished with everything and all of his crew will be out of here!!!

I talk with my Rotery Rep on Monday and he said he was able to get one the of the lifts that he already had on order changed to black for and expects to see it on Weds or Thursday of this week. If I get luck, they MAY be able to install it this Sunday!!!!

Ok, enough with talky and on to some pics, sorry they are so crappy, but by the time I get home it is getting pretty dark out, I hope to get better pics tomorrow:

The cable co is coming out tomorrow to hook that up and the Phone will be installed next week on Tuesday. This week, on thursday, My RaceDeck will be here along with all the speakers that I bought for the surround sound and the rest of the music in the shop. I have a total of 6 speakers for music and the normal 5 for surround sound, for a total of 11. I know, I little over kill, but hasn't this whole damn build been that way, why stop now??

I love the updates, minus the lack of draining floor.

A little overkill on the hose reels never hurt at all I personally like light weight flex hose mounted by the bench, did you happen to put any hardline in the wall for that? And I don't see the hookups for the reels coming out anywhere, are they there / I'm just blind? Or will the lines be ran on top of the drywall?

With the hose reels, I did not want hoses laying everywhere, so by having the reels at different spots, I won't have hoses all over the floor in the way.

I have no hard lines ran yet. I WAS going to put them in the walls, but I was afraid that if anything went a-miss, I did not want to have to tear out drywall to fix it. You are not blind, I do not have them hookup yet. I am going to run all my lines on the outside of the drywall as neat as I can get it.

My Air compressor is still on back order and so once I get that then I will start running my lines everywhere. I just need to figure out if I want to do the RapidAir stuff or iron pipe for the air lines.

I agree with WHITE for the fans to make them blend with the ceiling. Speaking of blending, if you take that floor level HVAC return cover off and hit the inside of the ductwork with some rattlecan black it will make it disappear once the cover is back on. I don't know if it stands out that much with the normal lighting or if it was just the camera flash making it jump out, but the black will definitely make it disappear. I know that sounds crazy, but it's all in the details, right?

I think it was just from the flash of the camera, since it totally dark in there. But great idea though, thanks!!

When I do run them, they will be tucked up next the ceiling in the corner to make a nice neat run.

And with the whole upstair complete sheeted with 3/4 tongue and groove plywood, I really don't want to have to do that.

Pretty much, the only "Toy" that I have right now is my 98' Ponitac Grand Prix GTP that I have modded, which runs 11.7s in the 1/4, not bad for a V6 FWD car that still weighs 3200#

So yeah, it is going to be like carrying a Louis Vuitton Wallet with NO MONEY for a while. ALL my wallets, accounts, secrete stashes are empty at this point. But you know, I will go to work tomorrow and make more, you sure and the heck can not take it with you when you go see the "Big Man"
