Nice place!

Make sure the window that is adjacent the stairs is tempered glass (this assumes it is being inspected and your inspectors are sharp, the broken glass certainly will be!)

I also like the compressor placement under the stairs. That space is too valuable to loose. Hell, store your lawnmower, coolers, lawn furniture, etc...

Larry !!!!
You are the man. No one else looked that carefully but you. Great catch.
You are right, so I moved it to save money to another spot in the garage.
Thanks for keeping me honest, and safe.

Your welcome. I build houses day in and day out so my mind kinda thinks that way....

I like those industrial side lamps you used, very fitting. Have you thought about putting a flood light near the peak to illuminate the driveway?

I'd be hesitant to store anything that might put out gas fumes in an un-ventilated area that small. Maybe my fears are unnecessary, but I'm always cautious like this.

Mike - I just finished a little project in my shop since you were here and thought you might be interested. Your I beam is similar to mine. You saw how crowded my garage is. I needed a place to store metal stock and welding rod. The I beam seemed like an ideal place - but how to do it? At first I had an idea to make my own brackets. But others suggested using struts. It turned out to be an excellent idea. You may not need this type of storage, but maybe so. I posted it on the hobby machinst site, here's a link:

That is a great idea. The link showed it well and reminded me of a storage solution I saw a while back that I was going to use. This may be a add on you can do also.

Mike - that is another great idea.

Rob - Very true! I have a chain hoist that attaches to the beam, but its easy to detach and position it where I need it. If necessary, it easy to reposition these brackets by loosening a couple nuts.

Mike great build......just my 2 cents, if you do not already have a compressor how about a horizontal one under the small stairs and the landing [removal of knee wall] , this will be a little difficult but will leave the large area for a "closet" with a door on one side [either one] and I would remove the studs on the other side and use 2x6 or 8'sto frame shelves [1x6 or 8's] for oil, antifreeze, windshield cleaner , parts etc. never enough storage !!!!! The storage on the steel beam could be on each end [or just one] as I bet the hoist will usually occupy the middle 10 feet 0f the 36 footer.........just remember you only have to please yourself plus anthing can be rearranged once you get working init......Good Luck .bobbycoke

Well,,, the county inspector came by yesterday the garage failed the final inspection.

Apparently the builder did not install the correct/enough hand rails on the attic stairs and the shop landing was not completed to her satisfaction. Looks like more work has to be done before the bath room gets started on.

The finer points identified were:
1. Attic Stairs did not have the extra hand rail all the way up. The contractor had installed one only on the first steps going up to the landing. He had installed some 2x4's along the upper stairs and that did not satisfy the inspector.
2. The shop landing does not have stairs yet, we are waiting for the final grade to be established before adding them, and thus it has a dangerous drop off, she wanted a hand railing completely installed all the way around, like a deck, until the steps were actually installed, if we wanted to pass final before the steps were added.

Once these items are taken care of, and it passes, the bath will begin to take shape.

The tile has been selected and now I am working to have a urinal added, (looks like another change order and $$) and now the space may not be large enough to accept.

The jury is still out on that part.

Those sound like two easy work arounds. We had a new condo built downtown where I work. I watched the crew install a really nice hand rail system and porch railing built out of 2X4's just to get Certificate of Occupancy. Once the iron work came in, they were torn down and replaced. It was about a 2 week wait.

Almost time to start moving out of the house garage and into mine.

I am so envious of that. I can't wait to start moving my tools and equipment into their new home. That would also mean my yard is done as well as the shop.

Congrats, it is looking good.

Mike.

Handrails are pretty cut and dried. Sounds like your contractor is a hack or has subbed out and not following up on things.

Bathroom after after final inspection? Off permit work?

Mike - wish you the best.

Starting my first run with the vent baffles. Ugh!! The roof nails are sharp too!

Laying flat down and using a hammer stapler is not the best thing to do right after dinner.

Why didn't I do this when I was 30 something??

And the first one has to be bent/cut, why does this have to be so &$@&#% hard?

Does any one know of a easy way to start that first one where it has to be bent?
After that it's a cake walk.

Razor blade, straight edge, and elbow grease.

Or get some quotes for insulation installed. I've heard sometimes the installed price will be very close to what you would pay to buy it and DIY.

I thought those were only supposed to go up about 3' to get above blown insulation in the attic floor? Or are you insulating up the entire roof?

Due to my 40 plus years of being married and a lot more of just collecting, [emoji90], I need an attic that has a sort of conditioned air space.

Have the paving guys today.
They are doing a great job and will even trench a spot so I can run a piece of conduit across to get power across the new drive.

so are you insulating under the the whole roof deck or will you just be doing the knee wall and the ceiling of the truss? that makes a difference in the details.

I will be adding insulation on 85% of the roof, about 3' from the peak, it will go horizontal for about 3 ft.

This will give allow the areas that don't have the ridge vent to still benefit from the air flow and be able to vent.

Thanks to larry4406, he showed me the :lol_hitti:lol_hitti and then I saw the light. Thanks again larry4406. He is a expert when it comes to this sort of stuff, and what he didn't know, he pointed me someone that did. :rocker:

Excellent job mike!

I wouldn't consider myself an "expert", but I have been building for quite some time (20+ years). I still learn every day. Glad I could help take some of the mystery out of your project.

Wow, lots of concrete going down. Almost needs a retention pond for run off! LOL!
Going to do a stain on it or natural finish?

Or is it going to be asphalt?

Well, I'm no money [emoji383] bags, so it's asphalt and only in front.
It will be gravel in the back, the trailers will be happy their not in the dirt and up on the gravel. [emoji16]
