Finally looking to work on my Garage

Hello All,

I am finally going to work on the garage... Tons of junk in there that has to be organized and/or moved out and putting in garage tiles should be enough incentive for me to actually do that!

Still working out a couple of things:
1) Under the vehicle spaces I plan on putting in Racedeck FreeFlow to get rid of standing water.
Should I put some sealant on the concrete first so less water is absorbed by my bare concrete? Or is it a non-issue?
Preventing stains is not much of a concern, just general dampness and the possibility of mold / mildew / smell.

I currently have ribbed rubber runners and they are terrible! Buckled up and now trap water rather than let it drain... They did prevent the spread of water to the sides, but I would not do that again.

2) I have an area to the side of the garage with some tools, storage, etc and was thinking of Racedeck Max since I have on multiple occasions dropped screws, nails etc. and fear they would easily "flow" through an open tile. Same goes for the cabinets along the house shared wall: too many small things to drop when getting things in/out of the cabinets and I want a better chance at spotting them when the fall. Maybe even Snap Carpet instead of Max as a good runner along that edge for a couple of feet out from the cabinets.

3) Also looking at using Snap Carpet around the stairs, or just go with Max there and a throw rug to help keep debris from getting inside. Any one have experience with using the Snap carpet just on small areas for entering the house?

One of those "duh!" moments... I was wanting a bit more shape options for the floor designer, but only had to make the area bigger and put in "no tiles" where cabinets, stairs, walls, etc. existed! Here is what I am thinking at the moment: carpet at the end of the two car garage portion and the stairs entry that are roughly in the middle of the entire garage. Max (only had diamond as an option in the config tool) for the right hand areas that are not under the car.

I advise going 2' x 2' with the checkerboard thing. That is gonna look real busy. Also, I don't like that every red border is one tile wide except the one.

Thanks for the feedback! I will have to lay that out when I get the tiles and see if I like the 2x2 better than the smallest checkerboard pattern. Overall it may move around a bit depending on how the actual garage openings line up relative to the pattern. Definitely want it to match the actual opening as close as possible.

Remember when visualizing it, that 1 foot x 1 foot free flow tiles will look like 4 6inch x 6inch tiles checkerboarded. I think that's why everybody calls 1x1 checkerboard on the free-flow busy.

Well this took multiple days - mostly trying to clean out the garage enough to expose the floor. No easy way to do that when there is snow outside in the driveway...

I ended up with the 2x2 larger pattern and that also made assembly easier since you get the panels already in the 2x2 size.

Still need to cut all of the pieces around the edges, but that will have to wait for another weekend (or probably sometime this summer).
