Okay I saw the video and that is beautiful! Wow what are those cabinets made from and where did you get them? So many details, what is covering the hot water tank? Awesome job, hats off to ya, lots of inspiration and ideas.

The gray cabinetry above the workbench and around the HWH and washer/dryer was custom made by a cabinet company. I had the cabinet company make a big "door" to cover the gas HWH so you wouldn't have to see it. It is open on the side to allow proper venting.

If you are talking about the side walls, those are sliding doors that cover tons of shelves for storage. I went that route so I could still open the doors to access my stuff even if two cars were parked in the garage without fear of doors touching the cars.

Awesome setup. I will be looking into those doors got my build. What are the dimensions of the doors? Rough cost of 1 door? Thanks.

The doors are custom made by a company called, "The Sliding Door Company". I think they are located all over the US.

For all 10 doors, the charge was about $12 grand, which included delivery. The installation costs were billed and payed separately.

Incredible. Congrats on your hard work, perseverance, practice, and success. I had to stop 1/2 way through your home pictures to take a breather and get some air. Think I forgot to inhale for 2 or 3 minutes.
As a musician, do you have alot of acoustical 'echo' problems in your home since I didn't see much sound absorbent material, carpeting, etc.?
I was speechless after looking at the pictures.
How many of your neighbors have leaped off of their roofs since you completed this? .. or do they just drive by slowly and shake their heads...
By the way, page 12, picture # 7 --- Imagine: One guy says to the other in a whisper, "hey,...uh....where's the plugin..?.....you DID install that base ring input switch underneath this didn't you?" -- crude humor.

Once again, congratulations.. When is your home gonna be on MTV cribs?

Thanks for the kind words, Andy. Good eye to notice that there isn't anything visible! Most of the interior materials in the house are granite, wood, glass, stainless and marble. Needless to say it sounded like a gymnasium when it was done.

Yes, there is a TON of acoustical sound reinforcement material throughout the house. In the recording studio's live room and control room and the theater we let it be seen since those spaces warrant that, but in the rest of the home, we just disguised it all so it wouldn't be noticed. The company that did all of the sound treatments (LBI BOYD) did an AMAZING job. I am VERY picky when it comes to sound. Much worse than the average person. The echo reflections made me crazy until they installed all the acoustic panels and materials. It was about $20,000 to do the whole house but it was the best $20k I spent!

Just finished reading the thread. Fantastic remodel!!

Unless I missed it, with regards to the hot water heater, I'm surprised no one has suggested a tankless hot water unit like Rinnai or Bosch. With all the technology and careful planning into the garage remodel, I wonder if that ever came up. It would save on space as well as be an excuse to get rid of that protruding vent.

Just curious.

Thanks for the kind words. And yes, a tankless unit was discussed (I use them in my other homes), but due to CA building codes and the fact that we have so many other things using natural gas, we would have had to have a larger diameter gas line installed to the house and we already have the largest one that is zoned for residential use. The city would not give me the permit to have a commercial line run, and the tankless unit needed to run the hot water system in this home (two of the showers have 7 or more shower-heads each) required more gas than we could safely supply it with.

Thanks so much for sharing, not only the garage but also the in-home picture tour. Only a special person would so freely share with the world watching. You have an amazingly creative spirit and the will to achieve. I suppose that is also very reresentative of your career and other aspects of your life. Congrats to you and I also appreciceated the kind words and care exhibited when you wrote about your Mother. Awesome seems like such a weak description in the context of your post. (Just a bit north of you - Bakersfield)

My current garage re-do plans have cabinets with sliding doors, though nowhere near as nice as yours. I need sliding doors so I can get into the cabinets as the one car is parked pretty tight up against my current Craftsman cabinets -- no way can I open the doors without backing the car out.

Lovely home, garage, and cars (I'm also a BMW guy).

Thanks for the kind words. The sliding doors are amazing. I have two 2-car garages and I do park two cars in this garage from time to time. The sliding doors really come in handy when you need something and you don't want to bang a cabinet door into your car.

Very cool. I love the storage idea about sliding doors. Huge space savers and I'm right with you about cabinet doors hitting the cars. We are dedicated bimmer owners too, just the smaller ones. Love the masculinity of the M6, but don't have the chances to enjoy the top end power compared to the M3.

I was laughing my *** off reading the post after post about grown men and water spots on the shower doors. But totally understand the water spots not being acceptable on the cars (ours are Alpine White).

I'm looking forward to a lift in my new build, especailly for helping clean the under carriage and wheels. I totally expected to see your entire exhaust polished in the pic with your friends lounging about. I'm about **** enough to try that.

Great build, but no thanks for helping increase the cost of my project :)

wow! You have given me tons of ideas... earlier in your post you mention that its nice to hit a button and have the hot tub nice and hot, can you also send a text message to turn your soda in to ice cold beers?

again wow! I don't have cable, but every time I am in a hotel and checking out the weather channel I will think of your sweet garage.

Just a terrific project and I enjoyed the view -- thanks for the in-progress photos and details, even responding to questions from the board.
