After buying this a few years ago it sat in the garage, never using it. I think I tried it once and didn't like it so it sat ignored like a red headed step child.

Well, the other day I had to tear down some sheets of plywood for a project and my DIY track was not cutting it so I tried the Kreg jig instead and it worked beautifully. Repetitive measurement cuts were easy and all the same size, which my tape measure and DIY track didn't do (granted I was doing this in the rain under a canopy).

The key to this is really securing the saw, I used some Gorilla tape also to hold the saw to the jig also.

I have that jig, it is nice for repetitive cutting but I still perfer the track saw. The track saw just makes such a clean, splinter free cut, it's hard to beat.

What did you need the tape for?

I have one, sat in the garage for a year before I used it but had a few rips that I needed to do and it worked fantastic for me. Not sure what tape would be needed for though? I also have the kreg tracksaw and find it works good enough for my needs.

Good to hear this about the Kreg guide, starting tomorrow will be doing the same thing. Seems like a solid saw guide.

I wanted to get one but I do not like the idea of taping down the track instead of a clamp.
That is one of the great features of a track saw.
I have a track saw now for maybe 10 years and yet have to clamp it down.

Not sure how the Kreg works but I wonder if you could get the rubber strips the track saw tracks use and put them on the Kreg.

What are you meaning by taping down the track? I haven't had to tape anything on my kreg stuff?
I might be confused but I thought I read that it is secured to the wood you are cutting with double stick tape & not a clamp. Their description says the track is held in place with anti-slip strips. How does it work without clamps?

So much confusion here. OP has the guide, not the universal "track saw" track and sled. They taped the saw to the jig to better secure the saw. They did not not tape the track to the wood (there is no "track" to speak of).

The universal track and sled (not what OP has) does use the anti-slip strips and does not generally require any clamping (or taping).

Yes that would be the one, didn't think to mention, takes up less rm than conventional plywood straight edge plus pretty sure it will out last one. It's new to me so cutting slow to make sure guide running along the straight plywood edge is firm in place and going to clamp plywood down to help keep it from moving while cutting. Plywood 8' straight edge is still handy especially being longer.
