Finished Garage - Less Dust??

i'm wondering if my garage will be less dusty once finished. i have 3 coats of primer, 1 coat of exterior semi gloss paint on walls and ceiling. the cement around the floor comes up about a foot - painted this weekend and i'm installing VCT Tiles shortly. will the garage be less dusty? my black corvette gets covered in dust in about a day.

The dust you're referring to has to do with the dusting effect of concrete, which wears away a little as you walk on it, etc. Putting tile down should help lower the dust problem.

You'll probably still have dust no matter what you do, but at least it will help out greatly. Pollen and outside dirt is hard to keep out.

Semi-gloss white with no popcorn texture shows EVERYTHING. I could see why you might want multiple primer coats.

WalMart sells a drywall taping compound (White color mud) in a white plastic container with blue writing...sorry can't remember name. On label it gives amount of their product to mix with a gal of paint to ad to get a texture like finish. Apply this mix with a very long nap roller and the surface will be very forgiving of drywall mud/tape blemishes, even with semi-gloss. Think it only mixes with water base paints. Might be worth a try in your case.

Do you live on a busy road? Dirt Road? How many lanes? How is the weather stripping around the garage door and how often do you leabe it open? Etc.

If it really doesn't get beeter you may want to consider one of those ion air purifiers for out there, really helps keep the dust down and you should be using a car cover too.

Had two more thoughts today while mowing the lawn. ( I live on a main road and have the same problem by the way. One makes sure your lawn gets enough water. I noticed today that my front is dry, when I edged I was shooting up big clouds of dust. Two keep the door closed as much as possible too. I actually have a spare opened I use when I mow the lawn so I can shut the door to keep grass **** out of there.

I bought a sticky mat for the door entrance similar to this:

Keeps dirt/dust on your shoes from entering the garage. Every bit counts. Normally used in a laboratory setting.

Great idea BMW, no pic though what is it like? Rubber or does it actually have some sort of adhesive on it?

Basically, it's layers of sticky plastic that you can peel off when the exposed surface if completely dirty. Just pull the top layer off and the next layer is ready to go.

You may also want to consider installing an air filtration system. I installed a Delta air purifier:

It's got three speeds and a remote. It changes the air in the room often enough for the work I do. I don't run it all the time, but I think it could be run on low when you're not working...

I share your pain. I also have a black vette. They are beautiful cars, but unfortunately, if there is any dust anywhere in the county the black will attract it. I keep mine covered until ready for a "walk". It'll also lessen the chance for inadverdant bumps/nicks on the car.

I think a nice flannel car cover might be the ticket if it's not moving for any length of time, and maybe a california car duster in the trunk for quick touchups.

What about just flogging the ****** Vette hard enough the dust flys off it? Its black, it will get dusty man.

I have ablack vette also. I keep it covered and I use a duster on it. I started using adams car wax and other related products and the finish seems harder to collect dust now. It also seems to dust easier also. The meguiars stuff seemed greasy and it was hard to get the dust off of the finish. I have a weatherproof cover and a light wolf cover for the garage. if I have to leave it outside I just put the waterproof cover on it.
