You know, the main reason I clicked on this thread was because I was sitting here, watching Desperate Landscapes on tv, who was featuring an old firehouse. Who knew it would be the same one. Too funny!

My TV plan doesn't include DIY channel. I get a lot of cable, but not that. So you guys in other countries are not alone. I see I can watch it on YouTube for 2 bucks, but don't need to see it that badly.

Just caught the rerun episode of your front yard make over on DIY. Great show as always, even cooler that I had seen more of the house than they filmed. I was telling my wife about it the whole show!

I had my 12 person crew (family), the landscaping crew had 10+, and the camera crew was 10+

The kitchen was originally part of the stables, the horse door remains. The former inhabitants took almost everything that wasn't bolted down. I tore down the ceiling, tore up the floor, sawcut for new plumbing, installed elec rad heat in new floor, new framing, new cabinets, lighting, hvac, ss counter tops, paper bag island, bowling alley table, custom banquet, and painted the AF logo.

Hmm, they put a drop ceiling in under the old bead board ceiling. They drywalled over the bead board when our station was remodeled in the late '80s.

Or lactated ringers to prevent shock, and MS5 (happy juice). Love the concept and can't wait to see it finished. My wife and I are on episode 32 on Netflix of Emergency! They got every episode on -- from '72 to '79. I love that fire engine red Dodge squad truck.
First Floor Bath.
This space was originally the kitchen that backed up to the stable (which is now the kitchen). The bath only had a throne and a sink. I reduced the size of the original bath and added a shower. Floor to ceiling individual subway tiles, about 3k of them and over a mile of grout lines. Oye! I took the added space in the hall and created a pantry out of two of the lockers from the original locker room.

When I tore out the original bath I took the time to get into the brick wall and expose and replace the original sanitary stack. I also framed a chase behind the sink to allow for plumbing and electrical routing for the upstairs.
Many hours were spent staring at walls, corners, ceilings, giving the old wheel mounted squirrel (ma brain) a heck of a workout.

I tore out the original door, door frame, and opening framing and started from scratch. I bought a door from a local salvage place and re-finished it. The floors were covered with a layer or two of linoleum and fiberboard. Underneath was maple, which we sanded, fixed, and my mother and her cousin stained the current checkerboard pattern. We exposed brick in a few places and touched up the wainscot. The wall where the original teletype was mounted had to come down due to some electrical issues that was a fire waiting to happen. I wanted to open up the stair all together but due to structural issues ended just opening up "windows".
