Actually the carb intake may have a practical side.
You could put on a automotive air cleaner that would quiet down he intake noise.

I'm going to have to see how small of one I can find around the shop. Barring that I may try to call in a favour with my former coworker and see if he can wire cut them for me.

Well yeah it needs to be resized after, the question is how small of a cut can I make to not eat up much material.
