On the ladder note, one of my favorite simple storage solutions in my garage is the ladder. I have a good spot for it just inside the door, and I screwed 2 long velcro ties to the wall near the top of the ladder. Just **** it up against the wall and wrap the velcro and it's solid as a rock, but a snap to get to.

OJ - very nice solution! I've got foundation walls that kick in about six inches so I don't really have the space between the wall and the garage door that you do, but I love the elegant simplicity of your fix.

I'll move the large ladder back into the shed once I'm done patching and painting the ceiling this winter. The smaller stepladder will be in the garage - I'm thinking two small J-hooks will likely do the job for me. :)

Excellent progress. I really like the iphone to tv idea. Interesting!

Thanks, Dubber! I really like your RaceDeck. I'm glad you were able to get it in before the arctic cold came in for a visit. It's 16F down here in Virginia. I can't imagine what it is up in your neck of the woods.

I still haven't gotten the Gladiator tracks installed. The demands of the kids and work have conspired to keep me from spending any meaningful time in my man cave over the past few days. However, I have high hopes for tomorrow... and I'm eagerly awaiting Thursday evening when the sale on the gearboxes is supposed to start. :D

Two things I wanted to throw out there:

First, here's a cleaner shot of the mount for the iPhone and the connection to the TV. It's a pretty clean set up and since it didn't cost me a penny (all recycled materials from previous applications around the house), I'm pretty pleased.

And here's a shot from this morning (11/18/2014) of the weather station I recently installed. As you can see, the insulation in the garage is really working! There's no heat in the garage, although I've got a space heater on stand by for when I want to work out there.

Looking good dog! Lots of nice little touches. I like the anniversary shelf a lot. I could use one of those for sure.

Sidenote...if you know of any good rental houses for not crazy $ in Sterling, let me know. My sister and her husband are moving there the end of the year for his job at the church he interviewed with back in September and they are looking for a house to rent. I hope they can find something in their budget.

Here's the link from Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AEVVZJ0/?tag=atomicindus08-20

It's got decent reviews (not great but not terrible). I'd put in my cart to review later but then accidentally bought it when I was doing a resupply on the baby items. I tried cancelling when I realized my mistake, but Amazon's shipping is just too fast. :dunno:

It arrived and I figured I'd give it a try. So far, no issues. If the worst thing that happens is I'm out $30, then I think I'll live.

I do like the big numbers. I can see it clear across the room. It gives me time and date (it also has an alarm function I won't be using), indoor and outdoor temp as well as relative humidity. It's back-lit so I can see it without needing to turn on the garage lights.

Depends on what you mean by "not crazy money." :) A good deal in metro DC is still probably crazy money in South Carolina.

I'm sure there's stuff around here - I just wouldn't know what resources to use to start looking. Maybe Craigslist or a realtor? Tell him to look in Herndon, VA as well. It's one town over (to the east) and experienced a lot of churn during the housing crisis. I have a hunch there's a lot of SFH rental units now available there.

Good luck!

I have this in my garage, and like it. You do have to keep it powered with a wall wart, but it works well, seems accurate, and indeed is easy to read.

Like most LCDs, it is difficult to read when very off-axis, but I'm usually so far away that it isn't a problem in my garage.

Thanks...

Yes, our 1 bedroom apt in Alexandria rented for about $500 more than the mortgage on our house in a nice neighborhood just a few miles from downtown Charleston. Ill suggest Herndon to them as well..

Keep up the good garage work!

Drove over to Sears this morning to pick up my three Gladiator gearboxes. They barely fit into my wife's little Ford Escape. I had to lay the seats down and pull the front seats all the way to the dash. Not a great way to drive, but it was a short trip and I was soon home.

Unpacking them was pretty easy. I checked them all for scratches and dents but found nothing. They're solidly built and I like the full front magnets that run along the top and bottom to hold the doors.

Now that I had everything put together, it was time to turn my attention back to the wall. I'd previously finished the top of the wall and laid the paint.

I laid the paint tape and threw on the red stripe. Once the first coat of red was on, I began measuring out and then mounting the Gladiator Gear Track. The studs on that wall are definitely not to code so that made it a bit of a challenge. Fortunately, I've got a pretty good stud finder.

And here we are with the second coat of red on the wall. The Gear Track is installed. Now to turn my attention back to the gearboxes...

First box is up. Pretty easy process.

Box Two is fully installed.

And that's three! :D

That's all I got done today. Pretty soon, I'm really going to need to turn my attention back to working on my truck. :p

Pretty slick. I didn't know the cabinets mounted on track like that. They look great.
