I took a welding course this past fall (Adult Ed at a local Voc Tech School) and started on my first project there, a welding table. The table is based on the plans on the Miller web site, but my table is smaller I changed a few things and added others. Most of the changes based on things I saw here. I ran out of materials before I could finish the table and put together a rack for scrap metal with the remainder of the class.
This winter I picked up a 3/8" plate for the Top from a salvage yard. A great classmate from the welding class hooked me up with a friend of his who cuts steel with a water jet machine. He cut the plate square and cut out the removable piece that covers the cutting bin (along with the finger holes for removing it). So grateful. Makes it so much nicer.
I started to finish it using my old AC-225 Stick Welder but it was not working out very well. Most of the welding in class I did was Mig welding and my lack of skill and practice at Stick welding was showing.
This weekend I bought a Millermatic 211 after a long time considering what make and model to buy. What a difference, what a great welder.
I "completed" the table this weekend. A lot of fun. I keep thinking of changes, so it really isn't done, but it is done "enough"
The Vise, Grinder and "Anvilish Thing" are all removable, using trailer receiver tubes.
My next project is a cart for my new welder.
Cheers!
