First Snap-on Box- new to me

Well, after 24 months of searching from SC, to RI, to (now) DC and NoVa, I finally scored a box that I have been looking for. My old, tired 26" Canadian-made (hey, still North American) Husky stack was doomed and never saw it coming. It was painless for the Husky, I swear. I went into this endeavor wanting a KRL, but after crunching the numbers, it just didn't make sense for a home (pseudo) mechanic like me. This beauty popped locally and I made a trip down to see it.

It had somewhat of a hard life in a transmission shop for the last, well, long time (don't know how to determine the year, has the dealer sticker but no model/year on the back and the drawers are all punched differently- confusing) A dent in the top drawer didn't deter me! I was able to pound the eyesore out quick, (but one in the top drawer remains for a pro). The fact that it didn't fit in the back of my 2500HD with topper almost did. Rental trailer from Home Depot was the fix. We got home safe after multiple checks to make sure that the straps didn't move (seller, and I quote: "is this the first time you have moved a box," me:"yes, and hopefully the last").

After a few harrowing on-ramps on '95, I safely unloaded it at home by my lonesome. A bit of quick detailer, and some drawer liners on order, and this will fit my needs perfectly. More storage than I need, and room to grow. Grandpa's and Dad's Gerstners fit well on top. McGuire's cleaner, polish, and wax cleaned it up nice.

My goal to replace what few foreign tools I have to Snap-On continues. Thank you Garage Journal (not really, but thank you!), I hate you. Well, at least my wallet hates you. The drawer shots are not ready for prime time yet until the drawer liners arrive and I re-organize, but I will put it up in the "show your toolbox" when it is ready.

Without further ado...

So where did you go to get it and how much was it? Those are important details for this crowd.

I love triple banks. Best of luck.

You should really try to avoid the Snap On tunnel vision.
Most expensive =/= best tool. That's a nice box, but you should have upgraded your tools years before your box, they're what really matter.

There is someone always wanting to pop some balloons. Nice box.

Congrats man. That box is a behemoth! What KRL were you looking at prior to this box?

Paid $1600. But the price matters little as it was what I wanted, and it REALLY wasn't this forum that got me there. And with that...

Hpzzouli: I know, disclosing the price in the second thread is half of the fun. When I was up in Newport I thought f hitting you up cause it it seemed like you had an in that little state.

Espy: I have plenty of US made Snap-on and Craftsman. Trading out the Craftsman for Snap-on, so maybe I have tunnel-vision, but I stand behind the my quest to replace Craftsman with that which maintains manufacturing in US. I have the means to do so. Not poo-pooing your suggestion by any means, but as I stated, I have been waiting patiently for this type of box to pop, and in my limited 2 year experience, they don't come up often. So I jumped on it.

BTW, have lots of love for the KA20- if I can't fly the Hornet, that is second best. Hat is off to you and the rest you that take care of us!

Was hoping for a 1023- gosh what a dream, but I have to watch my weight when I move. 500# is better than 1000# in that case.

Not gonna lose the wood boxes. Those are my grandfather's (Rest his soul) and my Father's Gerstners. And although I'm learning what a 1-2-3 block is all about, I refuse to let their craftsmanship die. They could do more with less than I could ever imagine. That said, thank you gents for the kind words. I am very happy with my triple bank. US made. Good steel. Good stuff. I like it all and it is going nowhere- even the mass of endmillls that I have no lathe to run them on. Yet. Thanks for the kind words. I am very happy with my purchase.
