Last week, I got 1942’s Snap-on combination wrench with Snap-on logo by US ebay.
Let me know which year’s one was first Snap-on with Snap-on logo.
I know Snap-on combination wrench was launched 1934 with Blue Point logo, next year of PLOMB one.
I would like to know the first one with Snap-on logo.

That’s what it looks like to me. Here are some tools dated 1942.

I have another question.
First metric Snap-on combo to be launched, when?
I have OEXM12 with mark "7".
It seems to be produced in 1987.
On the other hands, 1983 Snap-on catalog, which is available on web, shows no metric combo. (unfortunatelly I do not find out "after 1984" on web)
It means fisrt metric Snap-on was launched from 1984 to 1987.
Let me know it.

I know the Blue Point Metric Combination wrenches show up in the 1938 catalog. I am not sure when the Snap on showed up, but most probably late 1940's to early 1950's. The Blue Point metric combinations are almost impossible to find.

Thanks for your nice information.
I confirmed Blue Point metric on 1938 catalog, and also Snap-on metric on 1953 catalog, with thanks.

Do not count on the catalogs to much. Metric and Whitworth had there on catalog (factory list) about 1940-1952.

I am not familiar "catalog (factory list)".
What means it?
Corgibell, don't waste your time trying to translate that sentence, it really doesn't mean anything in English. Just wait til snapmom replies.
I sent you a private message about some Japanese marked tools. Can you see the notification?

Between 1940 to 1952 the regular snap on catalogs did not list metric or whitworth tools, people interested in buying them could write the Snap on company and ask for a list of these tools that would be available for purchase. Snap on did issue a small supplement in the early 1950's that list the available Metric and Whitworth tools.

Snapmom,

Did the metric/whitworth supplemental catalog depicted in your earlier post list all of the Whitworth sized tools offered bySnap On at the time? If so, and if there’s not too many pages, can you post them? I’m mostly looking for US made Whitworth combo wrenches to use. I have a few Proto combos but I’d like to put together a complete set. I have the Craftsman sets from the early 1960s, but they’re either DBE or DOE. Sears/Craftsman never offered Whitworth sized combo wrenches. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Hope you can see this.
Combinations were made starting about 1938. They had the Blue Point name, starting in about 1948 the name changed to Snap on, this conversion went through about 1960 or so. It probably possible to find both names with with the same date codes..
Two sizes, short and long.
The short sizes woex6a-woex120 (7 pcs) start in about 1938 to maybe 1990 or so. in whitworth 1938-about 1958 or so, then changed to British standard (same openings and model numbers, just a change of size markings)

Long sizes.
woex9-woex15. 7 sizes. 1938-about 1958. 4 sizes after that (all in British standard I think). woex10-13. I think the long wrenches were deleted in the 70s. Change from blue point to snappy and to British about the same as the shorts. Note the woex9 is quiet rare. usually sells for 100+ and is found in Blue Point and Snap on, with the blue point woex9 being super rare.

The wrenches in the catalog shown below would be Blue Point.

Many thanks snapmom! Thats exactly what I was looking for. I suspect that actually finding the wrenches will be difficult but at least I know what I’m looking for now. Thanks again for going through the trouble of posting a detailed response. Very helpful.

The short set is easy to find, sells about 125-250. The long set of 7 is very hard, but the four set is not to hard to find.

My 2 cents worth, for what it’s worth!

During the war years, many Whitworth tools were, I believe, ordered directly from the factory by the British Purchasing Commission in New York. They were made to order and I believe some were not regular catalogue items, though many were.

Quality was very high, and I particularly like the WXD 15 degree offset box end wrenches, as well as the deep offset. I have (and use) many examples of both.

Whitworth bolts, up till the war, used a hex size one bigger than BSF, hence some wrenches are dual marked. Most just have the Whit size, since everybody knew this! This is why short wrenches were common, since the bolt heads were bigger!

During and after the war, the same sizes were used for both Whit and BSF. This is why later wrenches are just marked “British Standard”. This is entirely correct.

Some sizes, such as the 1/8 Whit - 3/16 BSF (always a bit obscure) were replaced by bolts with Whit or BSF threadform, but a more common 2 BA hex size. Snap On still make this 3/16 BS wrench, but I don’t think the buyers understand that nothing has been produced in this size since 1939!

Thanks for posting those catalogue scans snapmom.

I have WXD wrenches up to 5/8 Whit. I suspected they went up to 3/4 but wasn’t certain!

I have the WRX single ended flare nut wrenches up to 5/8 too, and interestingly they seem to come in two patterns, some offset, some not.

The part numbers appear to be stamped on, which made me wonder if these were made to order?0A28E8D6-5667-4F68-8D08-933C14DC8147.jpeg8EECD1A4-17D0-4A19-B235-A788DCA8DE3C.jpeg

corgibell - combination wrenches were not common in the U.K. in the 40’s and 50’s, and I suspect this is why Whitworth combination wrenches from this period are rare, it’s simply that nobody thought to order any!

The wrx wrenches are not in any list or catalog I have seen, maybe someone can get access to the British Purchasing Commission NY purchasing records. I have found a few of these in the US but mostly in the UK. I have wrx11 thru wrx20 also have the wrx22.
I have no clue if there are any more. the wrx22 is a big one. I need a couple of the Snap on whitworth 3/4 drive sockets also.
