I'm going to a estate auction that has the same box in near mint condition. Any ideas on its value?

Values are very subjective, particularly in auction formats. I bought the ten drawer version at a straight estate sale for 50, but it is not in as nice of condition as Chipmunks before his restore. (mostly because the latch is gone and the PO scabbed on a hasp... I'm still looking for a replacement latch)

In nice condition it could start at near 100, or if no one is interested, it could go out the door for 10. It's an auction...

Bottom line: what's it worth to YOU.

Very nice resto!! I love the look of the handles on that box. How do the drawers open and close? My dad has a couple of really old boxes that I'd love to resto, but the drawers are a ****** to open and close. I've read threads on how to remedy that type ofproblem, but I think they are a little too far gone.

What paint/color did you use?

I used Rustoleum Hammer-Tone Gray. To me it was tricky to spray as I would get more of a Hammer-Tone effect in some places than others.

I found out what worked best for me was to lay it on thick as hell and only spray from above.

The drawers work fine I removed all the runners and cleaned them with WD-40, dried them with compressed air and paper towels before replacing them.

I had to do the same thing for my 54 roller. Get the drawers so the fronts are face up and lay it on thick. The box body was tougher; Lay il on thick, but not so thick it runs... it's a balancing act. If you get it right you get the good Hammered effect, and a smooth slick feeling finish. if not, it actually feels like its been sand blasted... (I had to re-shoot two of my drawer fronts before I got it where I liked it)

I stood my box on end and stood in the bed of my pick-up to get above the end.
