I ordered some new blades from Fiskar for my 20 yr old loppers. Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong ones and when I contacted them, they asked for a picture of the loppers I was using. I sent the picture then nothing for a few days. I was about to follow-up when lo and behold, two of the correct blades arrived in the mail!
I just wanted to give a shout-out for the great customer service. Too often we only hear about negative experiences.

I utterly abused my Fiskars loppers with "titanium" blades, cutting down 100s of buckthorn trunks 3+ inches thick, and at below ground level. Finally snapped a blade, sent in a pic, they replaced the blades no questions. These, though, do not seem as tough.

When my grandmother was in her 80s she decided to lop some large branches off a tree with a pair of the geared Fiskars. I didn’t think she could do it but she did without much effort. I immediately bought some for myself and they have survived serious abuse.

They used to make these comfy grip drivers, and I discovered them through Sears. When Craftsman stopped offering them, I found the OEM and bought from them. Used them for years till I switched over to ball ratchet drivers.

They had rows of tiny rubber nibs that folded and bent as you gripped it to custom fit your hand. They'd eventual break off, but very good grip while they lasted.

I've seen the quality go down the last handful of years, but maybe I've just been unlucky

I have a 40 year old pair of Fiskars scissors my grandmother gave me. I credit their longevity partly to high quality, but mostly that they are Left Handed Scissors and don't wander off. Everyone else in the family throws them back in the drawer in disgust 🤣

I have done some work for a guy who had a similar issue with his left handed scissors, the others in his office kept trying to use them and when they didn't seem to work well they threw them away.

Fiskars scissors aren't that great to be honest, at least the modern ones.

I used to really like the older stuff I picked up, marked Made in Finland. I haven't had great luck with their more recent offerings, but those have all been made in China. Can't speak to their customer service, as I've tossed any of their import junk when it failed me. The Finnish made products have yet to fail, draw what conclusions you will from that.

Fiskars pruners and Chinese Stanley pruners 021724.jpg
Fiskar's bypass pruners and the Chinese-made Stanley model they replaced. 02/17/24

My mother asked me if there was a way to sharpen her Chinese-made Stanley pruners.
Since I didn't have a file with me, I brought them home and put a new edge on them.
In the meantime, I picked her up a pair of the "Fiskars" at Coastal Hardware in Sequim. No reports or complaints yet.
Sometimes no news is good news.

You need to get them ones that are actually made in Finland. If you happen to be somewhere where they sell both you'll notice that some have smoother handles and a slightly darker color... And are are a lot more expensive, that's the good ones.

I just sharpened my mother's pair the other day, and they're about 35 years old and still cut great with no play on the joint. I agree that the cheaper economy line that they sell are nothing special.. Pretty bad actually.

Buy Fiskars in Europe. Everything I’ve seen for sale for fhe last fifteen years, in Northern Europe at least, has been Finnish-made.

I've gotten replacement loppers and pruners a couple times over the years from Fiskars. They're all that I use or will buy. Would recommend.

So recently, before Christmas, I went through the warranty process for a couple Gerber lock blade knives I've had for many years. One had a cracked latch lever and the other had a broken slide button. Did it online. Submitted pics.

Lo and behold, I received replacement knives in a Fiskars mailer.

And that is when learned that Gerber is owned by Fiskars.

The newer Fiskars utility type knives are fantastic- very ergonomic. I also have my mom's old fabric scissors made in Finland, newer China made kitchen scissors, perfectly fine and still sharp after 5+ years, and some newer China made loppers and pruners- and both seem as good as my Felco as far as blade life. Yes, I know, blasphemy. Felco wins with the replaceable blades and the aluminum handles on the loppers, but the blades are expensive, and they haven't impressed me with how long they last without showing edge wear- I sharpen them myself and have a spare set. Overall, I've been impressed with everything Fiskars that I've purchased.

It's been a couple years now, but yes, I did notice a much higher percentage of the products were Finnish made in Bauhaus stores in Denmark, for example.
