Anytime I got a car I really like and the hoses don’t come off easy enough I cut them and buy new factory hoses. Is that a dumb idea? Haven’t had to do it alot but I think aftermarket rubber parts are honestly not great and I figure if the hose don’t move free enough then it prob needs to be replaced soon anyway and better now then when I’m driving
The only time I do that are on petrified hoses onto aluminum connections. Like a heater core or trans cooler. 20yo+ hoses on a heater core? Those are razor-blade only removal in my book, replace with new. Too dangerous to damage something like that. Or disconnect elsewhere and leave the heater connection alone.
Different story if you work on cars daily. You'd replace damn near every hose you tried to disconnect, mostly for no reason.
Big issue is you can't get half the hoses from anyone but the dealer. Many of the hoses parts stores stock supposedly fit but the fit is poor and you can't even re-use factory spring clamps on them. My mind is slowly converting to "coolant hoses = dealer only".
I look at some of these nonsense designs like hoses with different inlet and outlet diameters..... WHY DOES THIS ABOMINATION EXIST?
Lang 854 hasn't worked awesome for me on cooling systems, they're never really the right profile. The size is about perfect for filler neck hoses though. I use cabinet tip screwdrivers and the flat end lisle 82130. The Lisle are a bit springy, usually my go-to method is prying the hose and tube open enough to spray PB Blaster or similar inside to try and get the hose wiggling.
