Looks like one is name brand (and reviewed, and sold by amazon), and the other is not. Picture looks the same, but don't go off of that.

The OTC version (that I have) has the old design cable which is thinner. I reviewed the Astro Pneumatic 9409A pliers & I like them a lot. Many people think even they arent "beefy enough"....but for the price, you wont find any other flexible hose clamp pliers near them that are any good. I think the next bump up would be the Mayhew version.

Mayhew is the better version.Watch where your fingers are,I pinched one finger with my Mayhew pair when I reinstalled a spring clamp for an upper radatior hose in a Jeep Cherokee last week.It did hurt and felt it.

When those type of cable operated hose clamp pliers first appeared, they were all made in France regardless of whose name was on it. Then came Taiwanese versions and now China, People Republic of versions are on the market. It's hard to judge quality from an online stock photo. Differences I've seen include: cable thickness, the quality of the barbs or balls on each end of the cable, the size and strength of the sliding ears that actually contact the hose clamp, and the length of the cable itself.
One other area is the latch. Many only have a single hook. That means that it's your fingers controlling the tension on the clamp if you want it anything other than fully open. I prefer the pliers that have a sawtooth latch that allows for more adjustment of the clamp.
As others have pointed out, when using these pliers never have anything between the clamp and the hose. If the pliers slips or fail, a full size hose clamp can separate the flesh on your fingertips from the rest of your hand before you know it happened.

These look like great tools. On the other hand, when I have encountered these clamps over the years, I have not had much trouble removing and replacing them with various general-purpose pliers. To me the wire clamps, for which pliers have always been made, are more bothersome than the flat metal.

I've used both styles, and I can say the Mayhew is MUCH nicer than the OtherTaiwaneseCrap version.

There are some that are in some truly hideous spots that while you could probably grab em with normal pliers, these are much much quicker and easier
