Flickering Outdoor Light

I have a problem with the outdoor sconces that is mounted outside my garage.

The current bulb flickers. I replaced it with two different kinds of bulbs and the problem still occurs. The flicker is going from brighter to dimmer, never completely on and off.

The bulbs I used were GE 60watt and 780 lumens and Ecosmart 60watt 800 lumens. Both do the same thing.

The label of the bulb base states "MAX 100 watts type B decorative medium based lamp"

Am I simply using the wrong bulbs or is this a wiring issue?

If I am using the wrong bulb, could someone link me to the correct one in 5000k temperature? I like the brighter white look compared to the soft white yellow hue.

Thank you!

TOO LITTLE INFORMATION . . . . are you in rural Bangladesh or India with generator power from PoCo ?? :dunno:

Or is building right below the subway line in Chicago that rattles by every 8 minutes ??? :dunno: :D

Now would be a good time to Update GJ Profile with your Location of City / State / Country.

Seriously doubt it is bulb if you have consistent power. Try taking out the light fixture and just temporary hanging a simple porcelin fixture with plain 60 watt incandescent bulb. My bet is problem with power itself, or the wiring connection for the fixture.

If still flickering, then trace further back to breaker, or wiring from the breaker to the fixture.
Good luck. ;)

Agree! good advise above, sounds like a loose connection either in the lamp holder itself or the wiring to it.

Is there a ballast in that fixture ?

IF there is it will say exactly what type of bulb it is designed for

Are these fixtures that have a light sensor or timer in them that keeps the light on dim and then bright when it senses movement. Many very fancy sconces have them. The light sensor may be flaky or sensing its own light somehow.

I seen the little tabs in the bottom of the socket where the bulbs screws in that get weak and don't provide a good conection .

If the fixture has a light sensing or a motion sensing circuit, it might be that its not compatible with a CFL type bulb.
