I just heard a new one about concrete and wondering about it . I know things change and its been awhile since I did any concrete work .

I have a friend who just had a 30x40 , 5 " , shop slab poured in St. Louis area . Its a floating slab on gravel , fibermesh with rebar . This should be just fine to me but what kinda has me scratching my head is that it cant be more than 12 hours from the time of the pour to all forms stripped !

WOW Thats mighty fast aint it ? Machine finished and looks good <havent seen it myself . I have never heard of forms getting stripped near that fast before . Are mixes that advanced to support itself that fast ?

That's how mine is. Forms came off the next morning. Seems fine so far. I was told and understand that it might crack eventually. Oh well, I can live with it if it does.

I just had a pool deck poured, forms were off in 4 hrs,, joints cut 6 hrs later,, it looks near perfect now 10 days later.
You get the right sort of concrete guy, my guy had 40 years under his belt,, they don't mess around or mess up,, and work like dogs.

Same here, forms came off the next day, and cuts were made then.

The only issue with wrecking forms in that timeframe is guys being careless with pry bars and spalling the corners or edged surfaces. An experienced crew can do it right.

The concrete is fully supported by the subgrade and the form is just to shape the edge.

Shored, elevated, or vertical concrete is a different story.
