These may be a little different that the Above listed, Im gonna do a little research to find out who is the Main Manufacturer of both. Well i see lots of similarities between the Frame on the Otc along with the Torin. Either way i cant put my finger on the Main manufacturer for that Griotts jack. It could be a case of copy cat by Otc, But there are some similarities. Cant find a Spain Hydraulic jack supplier. :headscrat

When people are shopping for an item that is supposed to last forever, I never understand why a good used one isn't the first choice.

I suppose some people are leary of undertaking such a project, Not to mention there is alot of overpriced used jacks on the market. My used purchases have been steadily falling off, I used to be able to buy a trailer load of used jacks for $400 bucks. It takes a grand or better anymore, And its probably due to this site.. LOL. You should google "hydraulic jack repair" Chances are my site and a bunch of GJ links are gonna appear on the first page.

For me this is just a personal preference. I doubt any explanation would make any sense.

@Hiball

the manufacturer of the Griots, OTC, Facom etc. jacks is "Mega" www.mega.es

A Spanish floor jack. Interesting. I assumed OTC jacks were made in Taiwan or China, so their high prices always puzzled me.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.

Thanks for the info, I knew there had to be some affiliation somewhere. The Chinese are great at copying things but that was just too close. That is the newest line that OTC is offering. They still have there own line including imports and Weaver. I wish i could get my hands on these jacks or had a breakdown so i could see what type of internal parts they use.

ive had my Nesco Hydraulics 2 1/2 ton jack for close to 20 years.
very heavy jack, with the exception of having the rear wheels lock up solid after it was sitting in a wet unheated garage for a couple years, ive had no problems. bought it brand new, from snapon.....

Otc Price has alot to do with there warranty, They offer a lifetime warranty on some of there jacks mainly the imports. The only American design they offer is the Weaver in disquise which is a terrific Long frame jack.

I like that Griot's jack, and I like it even better in blue. What do you think about that jack?

I personally dont know anything about the Griots jack or the Otc version. I can tell you that even though Otc normally deals in imported jacks only, As a company they have a great customer service department and "Some" of there jacks have terrific warrantys. The bad thing about trying to get something that big warranted is if your a ways for a distributor shipping can quickly become a hassle.

I've been beating the **** out of a 3 ton that I got at Harbor Freight with no problems...

Me 2, the only issue with the HF 3 ton I have is that it weighs something like 77 lbs, so transporting it to the track is kind of a pain. I am thinking about getting one of their cheap lo pro 2 ton "Race Jacks" some time soon for track use only.

I bought a milwaukee hydraulics Model 20 direct from them, they were giving a 10% discount. Call up and ask, they were extremely nice and a pleasure to deal with. What a company should be IMO. I have only had the jack for 2-3 months but it is a badass unit!

I think caroline told me the discount ran out this week. Do you mind me asking what the jack cost including shipping? She priced the jack to me and i wrote it down but somehow misplaced the paper. I was thinking around $400-$450 for the 2 ton + shipping.

Yeah, It was Caroline I spoke to, very nice lady. I paid $478 and changed shipped to northern AZ. I got fed up with my "3 ton" craftsman that wussed out after 6 months (after being replaced under warranty after 3 months) lifting a corner of a 2500 lbs honda. I think shipping was 60 or something like that.

I wanted to get the model 40, but the shipping went up to $200 due to being shipped on a pallet, and I couldn't justify that for a home use jack. I have no doubt that the model 20 will out perform that POS 3 ton craftsman I had.

Anything but Craftsman. It was the first jack I bought and cost me $100 in 1989. That was a lot of money for me to spend on a jack back then. After three years of moderate use, it started leaking. It still works, but only if I keep feeding it with hydraulic oil. It's kind of like that flower on Little House of Horrors; "Feed me!!!."

So, after six years of this, I finally broke down, drove to my local NAPA store and bought a brand new 2 ton NAPA/Lincoln/Snap-on/Hein Werner and I haven't looked back. I still keep the Crapsman in case I have a project needing two jacks, but as soon as I can sort out what's a good, long lasting back up jack at a reasonable price, that Cman POS is gone.

As a side note, I've been given a non-working Cman jack that was made in Japan. I'm guessing it's late 70's to mid eighties vintage. I personally spoke to the owner at the Hijacks web page and he told me it may be a Yasui jack and might be worth a rebuild if I tackled the job myself. Between him and Hiball, I'm motivated. We'll see how I do.

It is a Yasui, Like most of the newer overseas designs. Only difference being the seals that are used nowadays are nowhere near the quality that they used to be. I actually know a guy who sells the complete rebuild kit for those old sears jacks. Normally they have a model number that starts with 328.????.

Hiball - if I can purchase the kit, I will rebuild it and do an Elroy and Hiball photo shoot and guide here on GJ. If I screw up, so be it, but I'm seriously motivated to do this and hopefully inspire others to save the old timers that would otherwise end up as molten steel for future Cman POS. I'll send you the model number.
