Does anyone know which code section to refer to regarding boring holes in blocking between floor joists? I have 2x10 floor joists and need to cut a 6 1/4" hole for a range hood duct in order to vent this to the outside.
Thank you for your response. It is certainly to prevent joist rotation. There is no point load above. Do you know if there is a section of the code that addresses this scenario?
Thanks
Nothing in the code relating to 'mid-span blocking' which is to prevent rotation. Simpson makes metal 'X' bracing for the same purpose, so take that for what it's worth.
