Flooring options

I have read a ton of stuff on here.. Everything from $30 a gal paint to racedeck. I'm pretty well as confused now as when I started. So I will just throw this out there and see what options y'all have. I have built a 50x50 metal shop. I'd like to protect the floor with something. I did have a mishap with the spray foam guy and his lift that busted a hose and soaked down about a 8 foot section of brand new floor with hydraulic fluid.. The floor was covered in plastic to protect from his foam and paint but it also let fluid under the plastic and held it there for two days until the hose could be replaced and the lift could be moved. So we are going to try to clean the area and move forward. Before this mishap I was looking at HD40 but now I'm afraid you will be able to see the stain even once cleaned. So I'm looking for alternatives. I don't want to break the bank as I am covering 2,500 Sq ft. This is going to be a shop where I tinker with hot rods and park my motorhome. Not a ton of in and out traffic but basic car repair stuff. So lets hear it, have you guys used that's affordable, looks decent and works. I understand there is no magic bullet and there are trade offs for each product.. I am just overwhelmed with all the info on here it is way more than I can sort through.

Re: Flooring options

I used a less expensive epoxy called epoxy-coat. Cost about 1500 for 1050 sq feet. I wanted some good looks and protection. Spilled some oil the other day and just threw a towel in it. So nice not having to worry. I did have to grind it but now have a nice antislip and easy to clean floor. Intimidating to do it for the first time but came out ok with only one issue that I had to fix

It is very hard to find something with so many options and choices. It's not like kitchens yet, but getting there with so many ways to go!

I'd recommend picking up samples of Racedeck and take advantage of some of the vendors on here that do the same with samples of the other products. I'd also recommend calling around and asking locals on here with different types of floors to see how it's holding up long term. For me, the epoxies aren't (or weren't 14 years ago affordably) holding up but haven't personally seen any of the higher quality modern examples that the vendors of epoxy now offer. I really wish I knew someone that did locally to see for myself.

The biggest thing for me is if the epoxy doesn't hold up, I have to get it ground down which is a lot of mess, moving everything out, and a big headache. I liked the idea of a removable floor. I'm still on my honeymoon with it as I only had for a year, but really like it a lot. It seems to hold up to the exact stuff you're going to do.

I love racedeck. If money were no object thats exactly what Id go with but at 2500 sq ft and from what I've seen on pricing thats getting into the $8,000 range I can no where come close to doing that..

I'd reach out to them on here via PM. It will be priced less. There are some other nice options from some other vendors here too.

Any type of coating or sealer will require you to remove the hydraulic fluid. You could consider going over it will tile. I have some oversotck on small coin silver.... You could cover the whole floor for 5K

Otherwise, I would consider prepping the floor and going over with a Polyurea -- after you get the fluid out.

Super important to get all of the hydro fluid out by cleaning or grinding. If you can’t then our epoxy with Oil Stop Primer would be needed since this can adhere to residual petroleum products in concrete.

Alternately tiles are easy and trouble free. Our solid PVC www.supratile.com work well, as would other brands mentioned on GJ.
